Pheu Thai appears to be getting close to commanding a majority in Thailand’s 500-seat House of Representatives House.

 

Pheu Thai gained momentum when the Bhumjaithai party, of Anutin Charnvirakul, which won 70 House seat, appeared at a joint press conference to declare that they would be at the core of forming the governing coalition.

 

Combined, the two parties initially commanded 212 House, plus another 16 held by the Prachachat, Thai Liberal, Chart Pattana Kla, Pheu Thai Rumphalang, Plung Sungkom Mai and Thongthee Thai parties, bringing the current total to 228.

The closer they get the more votes they will lose at the next election. They have betrayed their voter base. They are no longer a people's party. They are now in bed with the elitists. Doesn't matter what populists things they come up with this betrayal will not be forgiven.

You're ignoring the probability that many of those who voted for PTP - particularly in Isaan - thought they were voting for a reformist party who would look after the poor of Thailand. The more compromises they make with the dinosaurs and near-dinosaurs to gain power, the more they betray those voter expectations.

Government with every party except MFP... .What goods can that bring??

Pheu Thai just signed away their future in exchange for Thaksin to be allowed back. I have a hard time seeing this working out for them in the long term but who cares, their master got what he wanted.

I have thousands of Thai friends who all voted for MFP they are all disgusted

The people of Issan knew exactly who they were voting for. Thaksin, whose parties have won every legit election since 2001. I think it is the Junta coalition party's voters who will be more upset at their members for voting in a PTP member as PM.

I have been here for 20 years which obviously includes both the 2006 and 2014 coups and the bent 2019 election and it's aftermath which saw the junta 'legitimise' its power, disolve it's opposition (FFP) and put in place measures to maintain authority to wit we are seeing the consequences. I am well aware of the political landscape here.

But seems to me they still need a large number of senators to vote for them to gain the PM chair.

That's an issue which tends to be neglected in this forum.

Supporting a PTP dominated government, after making a coup to get rid of it, is surely not a popular initiative among yellow folks and Junta lovers.

Under the policy, the 10,000-baht handout would be transferred to the digital wallet of the recipients who can spend the amount at local businesses within a 4-kilometre radius of their registered address. The digital cash handout must be utilised within six months.

This time it is very very different.

 

The junta (mature adults????) are so weakened that they are reduced  crawling on their knees begging Thaksin to save them.

 

The trends in Thailand are all in one direction - towards democracy, towards freedom and towards liberalism.

 

Conservatism, as practised by the Thai elites is over, finished, done and never to return.

 

If you think PT forming government is a victory, you my friend, know very little.

They didn’t vote for the people - they voted for the policies.

 

Have you ever been betrayed and then been happy with those that betrayed you?

PTP will get the PM slot but then it will be a sh*t show when the fighting starts for the cabinet positions.  Prawit may not get a cabinet slot, but he's been assured his brother will (keep the corruption in the family).

 

Does PTP really think all the junta in their coalition will let them makechanges to the military?  Maybe they'll let some small modifications go through, but nothing substantial.  And all the family monopolies / duopolies won't change so the younger generation gets screwed again (until the OLD dinasoars die).

 

And all this just so PTP will get Thaksin back ....
