Thaksin Has Arrived At Don Mueang Airport

I missed his arrival by 3 or 4 days, having just flown out on Friday.  Had I been in BKK, I'd have gone to DMK just to witness Thai history being made.

I'm neither a fan, nor a detractor of the man.  But I sense his return will end up being historic.  We'll have to see, in which direction.

don't forget to demand junta coup crew also get locked up....rolling tanks through the streets to take power and then installing their puppets appointing 250 illegal senators to insure they can retain power for decades regardless of what the thai voters wanted....to me that is worse than anything taksin did....his was mostly about $$ and deals...the junta is about stealing the entire country from the voters....

Police Convoy Escorts "Thaksin" to Court, Red-Shirt Supporters Await Encouragement

At around 10:20 am, a police convoy led "Thaksin" to the courthouse as a crowd of red-shirted supporters stood waiting for encouragement.

On August 22, 2023, news sources reported that after former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra returned to Thailand via a private jet, landing at Don Mueang Airport at 9:00 am, law enforcement officers promptly escorted him to the courthouse, reported Thai Rath.

Immediately after the completion of procedures, the police officers led Thaksin onto a vehicle en route to the courthouse. It is speculated that Thaksin would be seated in a white Ford Explorer amidst the convoy, with police vehicles at the rear.

By 10:20 am, the police convoy arrived at the courthouse, parking underground before leading Thaksin to the courtroom for the hearing. The front of the courthouse saw a gathering of red-shirted supporters standing behind barricades, offering encouragement to Thaksin.

As the convoy turned onto Ratchadamnoen Avenue, it headed for Gate 2 of the courthouse. The hearing was estimated to last 30-45 minutes. Thaksin's convoy was expected to exit through Gate 3, proceeding to the special central prison in Bangkok.

Hope to see him involved in getting tourism and immigration back to where it was. Lets see.

Thaksin's major contribution to tourism and immigration was the Thai Elite card that he fraudulently claimed would allow foreigners to own land. In reality he actually made it harder for foreigners to own land. Apart from that he had all the PR and citizenship applications knocked back and either rejected completely or delayed for 3 years.  He also increased visa fees.

Thaksin's approach was always to pander to the super rich foreigners, clear out the bottom tier and make things harder for the middle of the road expats. Visas for super rich are now saturated with Elite Card and LTR visas.  So he can just focus on clearing out the bottom tier and raising visa fees and financial hurdles.

Do you know he increased visa fees from 500 to 1900 baht.

Do you know he doubled the amount foreigners have to keep in the bank?

Maybe you want him to crackdown on the agents again?

Im not too sure about that. All the negative stuff for me came after he was gone.

What reason do some expats have to support him? Genuinely curious is there some more subsistence than "he's better than current lot" or "wife's family think he's really good for farmers"

  • Popular Post

So sad, all the poor people in the NE have been conned by this criminal. They still think that by giving them cheap phones, he was helping them, when if fact he was simply buying their votes and trying to pass his corrupt Authoritarian rule as Democracy, they had to use his AIS network, paying money they couldn't afford.

Me too, I can only guess they weren't here in 2003 ish. Possibly, they are married to farmer families. There is ABSOLUTELY no logical reason a foreigner would want this guy back!

Lets see.  A big mess of who wants to be the leaders.  Why cant they have written tests to see who is the most capable.  General knowledge.  Science.  1pc of zero. That kind of thing.  Factual stuff.  Smartest gets the lollies. Too many low smartness people around in positions they dont belong. Anyway,  putting aside any evil he has done,  the cruel feeling of being kept away from your home is over for Thaksin. Good luck friend.

His own decision to flee and his own decision to renig on his promise to return to Thailand after going to the Olympic Games.

I acknowledge Thaksin's political skills and tactics. He does hold an antipathy, however, for people from the West. The prospect of a Thaksin backed coalition should give expatriates some degree of concern. We might soon be missing the good ole days of Prayuth. The real challenge to Thailand's immigration laws currently comes from Chinese and Russian visa holders. Yet they're skating right past. Pita's background and ancestry, OTOH, seemingly had nothing to do with the position he or his political party took. In fact, it was the opposite. He appeared to promote egalitarian ideals that undercut the power and control of the Chinese power elite.
