3 yrs ago I was found to be deficient in Copper and Zinc and stupidly stopped taking the supplements as prescribed to me by the hospital. I was having major memory issues and lethargic etc.

Earlier this year I had the same blood tests and still deficient. This time I started taking 2mg copper daily and zinc 12mg nearly everyday / 2nd day.

I now also take Vit D and Magneseum (separate vitamins). Was found to be in the 'insufficient' range after having Vit D checked. Theres no point testing Mag in the blood as only 2% is in the blood. But I read that majority of people are deficient in it.

Finally I sometimes take Vit B12 (2 times to 3 times a week)

Ive mostly given up drinking and walk fast one to two times a day. I do some bench press and sit ups everyday. Sometimes push ups. Ive noticed my upper body has bulked up a bit. Happy to be doing this naturally and not using Testosterone supplements. Have a friend on the juice but dont want to go down that route.

Ive never felt better to be honest. No more memory issues at all. My hair has definitely improved in thickness and Im not as grey. My labido is a lot better as well. Aged in 50s.

Just to clarify Im only taking copper daily and all the others I alternate during the week. I decided against a multi vitamin and bought them all separately. One can only get copper prescribed from a hospital.

Finally, Its been suggested that I have stomach digestion issues due to the fact that Im deficient in many essential vitamins. I was taking the NOW brand 'Digest Ultimate' but stopped after a month or so.

I decided to write this thread in case it helps anyone else.

duh. I think its the copper followed by the other vitamins actually. Actually for the first 2 to 3 months I only took copper and zinc and felt incredible after 3 months.

Always good to see that someone felling better after taking vitamins, but the bottom line is that many experts are still still out there whether vitamins really help or is it more of a oneself assurance that it is working for them, meanwhile the vitamins industry raking in billions.

yeah, i did read that grey/gray hair is linked to copper deficiency once.

not sure if it's true.

never popped copper pills.

From what I read, copper deficiency is relativity rare and is associated with a very poor diet. You also say, I quote: 'Im (sic) deficient in many essential vitamins'Are you a vegan or vegetarian by any chance?

I would suggest you take a critical look at your diet @advancebooking

see if you can find where copper is.

The periodic table

One of the transition elements. Two valencies. As little as 0.5 ppm copper in fats and oils causes premature rancidity. Used as a catalyst in Kjeldahl reduction of proteins to ammonia.

Which experts? Liars mostly. It depends on your energy needs, age and diet. People who exercise need loads more magnesium, b etc. As you age you need more zinc.

Meanwhile the drug industry raking in billions.

How about: "Additionally, I regularly take Vit B12 2 times to 3 times a week"

High protein brain food diet: minor to no refined carbohydrates, 3 eggs everyday for decades, vitamins and minerals everyday, cold water fish 3-4 meals a week, positive world view. I’m an old fart and never had health any issues and my young wife can’t keep up with me. Maybe genetics I don’t know, but I plan on kicking but for much longer.

Multivitamin supplementation slowed cognitive decline in older adults, the COSMOS-Webopens in a new tab or window study showed.

Compared with placebo, participants who took a daily multivitamin/multimineral supplement had significantly better immediate recall at 1 year (P=0.025) and across 4 years of follow-up on average (P=0.011), reported Adam Brickman, PhD, of Columbia University in New York City, and co-authors in the American Journal of Clinical Nutritionopens in a new tab or window.

Multivitamins improved memory performance above placebo by the equivalent of 3.1 years of age-related memory change, the researchers estimated. The effect was more pronounced in people with underlying cardiovascular disease.

When I was having terrible memory/ cognative issues I went to a brain dr and did testing. He tested me for copper, zinc, B12 and something else. I was deficient in all of them. Now finally taking these individual supplements I feel a lot better. Also I find Im sleeping a lot better taking Magnesium now.

I can say that magnesium really helps, but the magnesium pills on sale here are not effective since they contain the cheapest forms of magnesium, which are barely absorbed from the digestive tract. So I have to get pills available through Lazada, etc, originating from the US.

With a normal balanced diet and an active life style, not having underlying disease, taking vitamins and all sorts of elements and additives is totally unnecessary and possibly harmful. Except for above around 70 years of age maybe the vitamin D, although in Thailand with a daily walk you probably won't even need that (as in my own situation). All these products have benefit only to their manufacturers. In the OP the improvement is clear to most aside from the poster: less drinking and more action. (I am an MD and do know what I am talking about).

I am 78 years old. I am in perfect health, physically and mentally. The last time I was in a hospital bed was 14th February, 1945. Never broken a bone or had any kind of serious medical condition - the worst I have suffered is flu! I have never taken supplements of any kind in my life - what's more, I have never had a dedicated electrolyte or energy drink. Had plenty of daily exercise that included more than 20 years as a runner in England and more than 70,000 kms on Thai roads as a cyclist, continuing currently. No running but two sessions a day of walking about 30 minutes each.  I have a balanced diet that allows for the odd indulgence that means I am not stuck with a title of "vegan" or "Keto" or any other absolutist regime!

Things can change in a moment, I know!

I don't consider myself to be lucky, rather, that I haven't been unlucky!

I value my situation and sympathise with those that cannot enjoy the same - I wish you all well!
