are these people totally incapable of following simple rules such as this??? If I were the owner I would have booted the lot of them out, but nobody did.

Perhaps the owner was happy for them to stay.   The rules are his, not yours, if you don't like them, don't patronise the place.

They're not your rules, nothing to do with you at all.  Get it?

So what?  It' was none of his business, either!

If the owner has made a list of rules...  it's a bit of a stretch to imply that they are happy for people to break the rules.

Now, I know you'll suggest that we get something official; a direct quote or a written statement from the owner otherwise that opinion is just an assumption... However, when an establishment sets rules, it's usually because it wants them followed.

Not all that different from the practice here.  Over half the local patrons at KFC and McD don't clear their tables either.

Absolutely right, why should they when there are staff to do that?

What’s the point then, scorecard? The sign said no outside food or drinks, they brought in outside food.

yes. And and?

You must have misunderstood.

It was in plain English.

The sign said "no outside food or drinks."

So your Chinese friends brought their food and drinks........INside.

IF we are at a restaurant / cafe etc and the behavior of others impacts us, it becomes our business.

If in this case, in a cafe someone sat near me in doors and started eating the durian they'd brought in from outside... I'd object in the same manner I'd object if they started smoking.

i always think about when im the last to disembark a chinese flight--looks like a bomb went off

I've done many flights on Chinese airlines domestic and international.

For every flight the recovery of food trays and drink containers etc., etc., has been the same as any other airline worldide. All completed and food carts stowed about 20 minutes before touchdown.

Should we all behave like uncultured pigs then, because, why not???

It's a freedom we have if we want to do that.  The private coffee shop, or KFC or McDonald's does not fall under your 'kin authority.  Some people on this forum behave like "uncultured pigs" (not you, of course, I'd never suggest that, don't misunderstand me) but that is their prerogative.

Could you not have had a word with the restaurant staff to voice your objections or did you just suffer in silence?

What has it got to do with him, he has no authority to complain to the business about who they serve!

I am starting to notice, many Brits only seem to like Brits, with few exception, if AN is anything to go by.

Again, if the sign wasn't in Chinese ....

Popped in to local place for some KraPao, and parked in front.

Waitress, instead of thinking, 'ding dong farang, can't park there' informed me, odd days, you need to park on other side of street.

Thank You

"You happen to notice Brits only like Brits", how on earth have you come to that daft conclusion.............?         ????

Admitted it was 1988, in china  my g/f and I went in a restaurant to eat, the table was covered in bones and scraps of food left over from the last customer, they simply just wiped the lot straight on to the floor, and the first time i had seen people, eat, drink, and smoke all at the same time

In many areas that's still standard practice.

No point in the wait staff being dainty about wiping the tables, since the guests are already throwing bones and scraps on the floor during the meal.  I suppose it's more efficient that way, as then they can rake everything up all at once.

It took a while to get used to the banquet manners..........eat a bit, drink some baijiu, smoke, order next course..........lather, rinse, repeat.

If it offends you, then get a sign written in simplified Chinese for the mainland ones, and complex Chinese for the Cantonese speaking ones.

...but he'd have to make sure that it is only displayed in his own coffee shop, not someone else's business premises!

Stretch or not, it would be the owners business, not the OP's (who the Chinese customers may have found just as objectionable!).

You must have misunderstood.

It was in plain English.

And, being in English, perhaps the "rule" is aimed at the English "uncultured pigs" ( to use the OP's expression), not the Chinese!

I think you are overly obsessed with rules. You probably complain that Thai drivers don't follow the Highway Code. Some people break silly rules and it does no harm, and these tourists did no harm.

No, it does not.  You may not approve but it sure does not make it your business...you're free to take your business elsewhere.

The waitress pointed out a local regulation, presumably so as to prevent either you or the establishment having an issue with the police... And this upset you?

And how does wanting to buy a pad krapaow turn into "ding, dong farrang"? Were you intending to pay significantly more for your krapow than a local?

Reading comprehension ... ????

Except the owners of the coffee shop did not complain and the Chinese bought 15 cups of coffee and water (that's in a different post to the OP's complaint.

Thai folk rarely complain, the Chinese were taking the p_ss, perhaps what they are used to doing, a business is a business, not take care of people for nothing........????

Someone broke a rule in Thailand?

WOW, I've never heard of such a thing.

My brother ran a bar/restaurant here. It was mainly for farangs but Thais came in to watch football etc. He allowed Thai customers to bring their own whiskey in and for Thai girlfriends to go to the local market, but food and bring it in. I was new here and was shocked. He said no big deal. "If I sell a bottle of Black Label I can make about 50 baht, but these guys drink tons of mixers at which he made a handsome profit as much as he made off beer....30 baht for a mixer bought at 7 baht".

On the subject of food, he argued that it was expensive to keep all the ingredients for a Thai menu and that it wasn't worth the cooking because he couldn't make it for twice the price it sold for on the market next door and he made decent money off the soft drink the girls bought.

I guess it is how you look at your business, whether you are in it to put rules up on the wall, or to make a profit.

Most profits are made on drinks anywhere you go, not food.

When you order a good server always pushes drinks, preferably right when you sit down before looking at the menu.

Are you doing your ‘out there on the spectrum’ thing and taking business to mean ‘something which makes money’ as opposed to ‘an issue that impacts us’…

..,to clarify…. If someone is sat near me smoking… or eating stinky durian etc it is something that is my business as in it’s something that I need to address…

Then mother goose opened up her backpack and pulled out a packed lunch for all the family, I’m talking full on banquet, orange duck, moo ping, durians, the lot! The stench was almost unbearable!

Saw that too. Chinese family of four spends the day at a mall, but, instead of buying food at the food court, or one of the dozens of restaurants, they bring and carry around their lunch in tupperware.
