Police Lieutenant General Surachate "Big Joke" Hakparn has taken a three-day leave of absence amidst ongoing scrutiny related to accusations of online gambling involvement. The abrupt hiatus has drawn significant media attention, casting a shroud of mystery and speculation.

Stationed at the police club on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road on September 28, a persistent cluster of journalists continue their vigil, eyes peeled for any movement or disclosure from the esteemed officer, reported Naew Na.

This followed the episode on September 27, where Surachate, accompanied by eight other officers and lawyer Anan Chaiyanan, fronted the media, bracing themselves against the accusations of involvement in an intricate web of online gambling.

Reports suggest that the celebrated Police Lieutenant General filed for a three-day leave starting September 27, marking a momentary pause in his illustrious career.

This abrupt withdrawal from the public eye has infused the atmosphere with palpable tension and speculation. The unwavering media presence attests to the gravity of the case that now shadows a man once lauded for his unyielding stance against corruption and crime.

As the clock ticks and silence from "Big Joke" prevails, the nation, along with a watchful media, anxiously await revelations that could potentially mar or vindicate a decorated career interspersed with accolades and controversies. The unfolding legal drama underscores the persistent challenges clamping down on the pervasive issue of online gambling.

  • Sino Thai Ay Anutin will. He went after us as Health Minister and now is Interior Minister where he can do even more.

Maybe he's having his car bullet proofed after earlier 'warning' shots.

Why are they still referring to him by his full name rank and his nickname"big Joke" over and over again? by now, every person in Thailand knows very well who is Police Lieutenant General Surachate and Big Joke, and that both names refer to the same person...

Back then I think he made visits to temples in India, maybe a vacation in the U.S.?

Back to the Lazarus Pit.

I predict he will make a comeback.

yep - a visit to my village Post Office yesterday saw the entire staff glued to the TV coverage of BJ at various Buddhist ceremonies. Did you know that visiting the temple is like getting a ''get out of jail free'' card?

Some truth in that comment, although probably not Chon Buri agents, a much bigger cartel than that one.

Any comeback depends on whether some very, very influential people higher up the pyramid either want or are prepared to tolerate him back.

If he is clean then I doubt that he will have many friends.

If he was running a numbers racket, then whoever has taken over the operation will not want him back.

Very presumptive and a WRONG assumption. Done the extension myself with 800k year-around for years. I could meet the financial requirements of OX or BOI LTR if I wanted.

I don't want any tightening because I don't want to submit more documents whose dates have to line up or at worst be required to supply something that can't be obtained from my embassy/my country e.g. "proof of origin of funds certified by Embassy". AMLO type origin of funds proving could be on the agenda. The requirements for proof are unlikely to be anything but very precise and very pedantically enforced.

Who knows what kind of curve ball they will throw at us - they might decide the best way to ensure "quality" applicants is to require a Masters degree (as per one BOI visa type). The generation in their fifties didn't do Masters degrees  it came with the debasement of education. SO: how many "good" falangs would be able to meet that requirement? They might have to uproot.

All you people wishing for tighter visa requirements, be careful what you wish for , they might throw a curve ball that bites YOU on the @ss.

All of those who said if you can't afford 400k year-around you can't afford to retire here, I say to you if you can't afford to be double taxed you can't afford to retire here. How does that feel?. Too many people on here gloating from an incorrect presumption of their own extension security.

There are 2 main reasons for that:

1. New people read the news everyday.

2. It´s a part of good journalism.

Here's a possibility: When Indonesia revamped it's immigration law it specified the rent paid/property value the applicant must live in and also the number of people you must employ amongst other requirements. Malaysia has specified it only wants people who will make a significant contribution to Malaysia.

SO: All you wishing for tighter requirements to keep out the people you see as riff raff might end up having to build a new house/move condo and explain to the IO just what your contribution to Thailand is at extension time. You can explain how the Thai economy will implode if you withhold your golf club dues like you do on AN, but they might be cynical or looking for something more than that.
