Totally agree! It has been highjacked by a hard core of approx. 12 idiots/Bots/paid for posters who may be increasing the "click count" but are ruining the site!

  • The fun has been lost.   We used to have fun posts about sightings of Michelin men and Mountain Dew and the like.   Now almost every post degrades into pages of off topic bickering

So Nicks the Australian now who used to be flitting between home and some Island to post about Thai music, the plot thickens 😁

If you mean IP address that is meaningless as VPN's give them in another country and it would be impossible to tell the gender and nationality, all you have is a connected IP address, 2 people use one in our house!

I don't mean anything that you imagine, gender, eeeeeer, member Yinn was a purported female, member Aussie bloke was a male, both at the same addresses using the same machine...

Is that too difficult for you to understand, if it is, you really should have a Kitkat... 😉

Who is Dan?

Allegedly a bloke like many others who try and use an online following to leverage a free ride. It somewhat annoyed me to watch him and his family stuffing their faces with free food at my local for several years. Thankfully new management have put an end to that and I saw him having to painfully pay his bill like the rest of us last week.

I disagree.

There are occasions when some very helpful information, or advice, is put forward by posters. I think it only reasonable to have a mechanism to recognise that - or thank them. Yes, you can pen a physical reply to them but that seems unnecessary most of the time if a 'thumbs up' was available.

A range of emoticons is just puerile - thumbs up/thumbs down should be enough.

Some law agencies see thumbs down as meaning severe harrassment etc., according to the law, possibly chargable. Therefore that site doesn't provide a 'thumbs down' symbol.

So explain how you can tell gender and nationality of a poster from an IP address, even if it was the actual one posted from. Thai Mrs and I post from the same IP address, it's like somebody accusing her of being from the UK just because I use the same address. You don't really know much about IT do you!

Name calling rude posters.

"Now almost every post degrades into pages of off topic bickering.

Mostly true.

Even just a post asking for help or information can become a source of hatefulness.

I have tried to adjust in one way by approaching posts as follows:

"Nothing that is said is completely useless, it can always serve as a bad example."

I mean this sincerely, sometimes I see bitter nasty comments and I remind myself I don't want to be like that.

Also, I find more often that I stop myself and think "Does this really need to be said?'.

I do like to make jokes and tease people about their posts, but I try to keep it good natured.

Most of all this forum still has knowledgable posters so when I ask a practical question I get the benefit of their knowledge.

Or choked with brazen, hateful vitriols. One current example:

I am straight hetero, but I see no point to getting my knickers in a twist about what other people choose to do with their lives.

Truth be told, most of the vitriol comes from people who are insecure with their own sexuality.

It's like racial hatred in America, the most fervent white supremacists often have an ancestor who passed for white.

😂.............You can't, but the 2 operating in different places were using the same machine, Yinn claiming, and you fell for it, to be a bird working on her worm farm, and the Aussie bloke, who is a man, we know that from his username and posts.

It is plain to see that you cannot accept you have been hoodwinked, but you have. Just put it behind you because you look stupid here digging that hole....

Just as an aside, have a thought for the moderatos who have to actually read all the garbage and poo, unlike us who can just skip over it.

It seems to me that many long-term members are not here anymore.

And some (new) members try to beat each other about how many useless posts they can publish in a day.

Is that it? Is this the death of this forum? Is there any hope that it will get better again?

The owners put it up for sale in September. It seems as if some of the long time moderators have left, too.

Right direction. Go on, just think a bit further afield...

Are all these emoji's anonymous for everyone?

Is there some kind of advanced tier whereby you can see who's spamming you?

Yes they are. It actually was annoying in the beginning not to know who is 'confusing' me, but in the end I got used to it. if a forum causes me to get angry then i gotta do some introspection

If not, what a ridiculous feature. Who thought that was a good idea?

i actually think it is a good idea. knowing who 'confused' you can lead to some bitter rivalries. i find most posters on here are fair enough, in general.

The hatred per se is of no surprise... However the ready "deluge" of it is what makes it all the more concerning. And that on the whole renders the forum space a tad less civil, if not downright hostile.

So you think you can tell gender from a user name, you can't and tell nationality and location from an IP address, you can't. Yet you say I am digging a hole, ha ha. I will just have to go with my own eyes over your paranoia then.

Excuse me...I only asked a question, I didn't see the "asked" and "answered".

She did, much to the annoyance of somebody on here, why did they let her do that if they knew it was an Australian bloke? I actually do know an Australian bloke James Mitchell Phd, his Phd is in Thai music and only the second foreigner to get one, as far as I know. Yinn knew more about Thai music than he does, apart from the history of Kratai and other record labels, so if it was another Australian it would have been quite amazing achievement.

Why are you addressing that garbage to me?

It was annoying when a certain poster chased me around the forum putting "laughs" on every post I made, and when I PM'd a mod to complain I was told that it was OK because he's a long time poster with lots of posts.

That problem got solved because the poster in question doesn't post anymore, but I used to have a PM conversation with someone that disliked it so much he left the forum because of it.

Now we don't know who is putting them we can't even complain about being stalked.

This was my point exactly.

You could quote me with some interesting or useful info and some tool adds a confused emoji. You assume its me and don't engage again.
