Belgian man found dead at house in Chiang Mai, murder suspected

One thing is sure, the Thai police almost 100% of the time say suicide. Even in unlikely cases of victims having had their throats slit. So if they are thinking of murder, there might be something that they know that has not been added to this story. I guess only time will tell...

Normally police don't need much incentive to call something a suicide.

Just a month ago a man committed "suicide" by repeatedly stabbing himself in the neck in a hotel room in Bang Tao.

Here we have bag over the head and a suicide note and they suspect murder.

Amazing Thailand.

they should do graphological research to check if he wrote it.

I think you mean Forensic handwriting analysis, graphology is used to determine a persons personality from their handwriting.

Hmm, this often seems to happen when the only person who might be a witness to the crime is conveniently away for a few days....

Probably English. Unlikely Thai maid reads Flemish.

He was French-speaking. Note was in English.

This sounds exactly like what happened to an old friend in Khon Kaen about 8 years ago. Ran out of money, not getting on with his Thai wife, hanged himself. The same kind of circumstances.

RIP

Alain Vachaudez, is a model maker born in Belgium and settled in Thailand since 1985.

In more than 15 years carving wax and assembling various materials, he has created hundreds of figurines, patterns, decorware, bronzes and more.

His Faeries Collection, containing more than 150 figurines, can be seen as a reflection of his esoteric and cultural quest. His skills allow him to carve intricate jewelry as well as more massive bronze items.

Alain has carved for years to supply specific creations to high standard design and jewelry businesses in Chiang Mai, where he is reputed as a skilled and professional model maker with a wide creative field. He also creates items for customers outside Thailand.

So you're saying being a master craftsman doesn't pay the bills?

Why four question marks to one question?

Probably English. Unlikely Thai maid reads Flemish. Poor dude, albeit 73 isn't a bad innings. Not a nice scenario if one is murdered, though.

How do you know the victim wasn't French Belgian?  The police have a few questions for you.

I am not saying this case was suicide, but surely the best time to off yourself is when there is nobody around. Am I right?

how many cases have you studied?

Are you a member of the case study police?

Who do you think you are to challenge a perfectly reasonable statement, when you are too lazy to go and find out for yourself.,

Then, you may be, repeat maybe, in a position to challenge the OPs statement.

This a forum - not your imagned interrogation station.

Quote from Thaiger link :

"The Thai maid added that suicide was possible because Vachaudez had financial problems and had divorced his Thai wife. According to the maid, Vachaudez had been running a resin casting business in Thailand for over 10 years and recently ran into financial problems."

"Vachaudez used to live in Chiang Mai with his Thai wife and children but they divorced. The wife and children later moved to live abroad. Vachaudez once told the maid that many of his friends had committed suicide and that he would do the same one day."

Committing suicide with a bag over your head is virtually impossible. your enormous need for air forces you to open the bag. Only under special circumstances, for example comatose drunkenness or stupor due to poisoning, should you not open the bag. The coroner must give a definitive answer on this.

What language was the note written in??

If it was a handwritten suicide note, it should be easy to match the handwriting to him.  Not the first time someone tries to kill themselves this way.

The helium would have rendered him to be unconscious quite quickly

I think a horr5ible death if you suffocate yourself in a plastic bag.. a big unbelievable, but suicide is easy.. case closed

Not a horrible death if you breath in helium. No suffocation, no hyperventilation. Peaceful death with no symptoms.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, clearly the guy involved did his research and he must have been pretty competent and clear headed at the time he chose to exit this world.

You would attempt to turn the gas off so nobody else gets harmed after the event, when they do this in cars notices are often posted on the windows.....
