Mid-air madness: Unruly passenger turns Lufthansa flight to Bangkok into chaos

A 53 year old German man turned a routine Lufthansa flight from Munich to Bangkok into a chaotic nightmare. From threats to undressing and attempting to set a blanket ablaze, this turbulent episode forced an unscheduled landing in India.

 

Just a few hours into the 10-hour and 45-minute journey, chaos erupted as the unnamed German man unleashed a series of disturbing actions. His wife, feeling threatened, sought help from the airline staff, setting off a chain of events that would leave the entire flight on edge.

 

Responding to his wife’s plea, the unruly passenger escalated the situation dramatically. Witnesses revealed that he not only threw food but also attempted to set a blanket on fire with a lighter. Adding to the pandemonium, he smashed his phone and shockingly undressed mid-flight, screaming menacingly.

 

“I’ll kill you all!”

 

The cabin crew’s instructions fell on deaf ears as the situation spiralled out of control.

Interesting that a little detail is missing in this report.

His wife is Thai and after the dust had settled she continued her flight to Bangkok.

I think the furious German will have to break his piggy bank to compensate the damage.

I remember being on a flight with an idiot like this, he eventually got into a physical altercation with a member of cabin crew and I had enough, brought to the floor and restrained - he was arrested when we landed, I got an applause

I think that when passengers have a fit that the reason for crazed behavior should be studied and catalogued. I have mild claustrophobia and have taken planes quite a few times without any issues. Who's to say that one day something like this won't happen to me or anyone of us?

 

Alcohol or drugs aside, there might be an underlying issue that could be treatable or diagnosed. Its easy to point a finger and blame people but sometimes there are real issues at cause but no one knows them cos no studies have been undertaken, yet

Indian prison?  Forget bottled water and clean toilets.  His digestive system will remember this adventure the rest of his days.

And then there is the prisoner experience itself: baksheesh and sadism.

I used that law firm too once. Never again.  Old Baksheesh isn't too bad, as long as you keep paying him, but the junior partner, Sadism, can really dish it out.

As long as he apologies for trying to set a fire on a flight, and putting everyone life in jeopardy, then all forgiven.  

 

Until next time, he may actually succeed and crash a flight, hopefully Lufthansa, and any survivors sue the sh!t out of them.

 

No wonder all these silly incidents on aircrafts are on the rise, as no consequence for bad behavior any more.

An apology? Trying to set fire to the blanket sounds more like attempted manslaughter to me. Fire in an airplane is life threatening.

 

and then there is failure to follow aircrew instructions. Surely as a bare minimum he is guilty of that.

 

and an apology is sufficient punishment. SMH

I think airplane flights are one of those areas where you have to take a really extreme approach, if there is not an air marshal or law enforcement on the plane the passengers certainly should have the right to subdue the man. Perhaps they should go a step further and have very powerful tranquilizers on board to just knock the guy out, so handcuff him, knock him out with tranquilizers. When they land there should be a mandatory prison sentence of 10, perhaps 20 years. Flights are one of those areas where you need a certain amount of order and security, there's just too much that could go wrong lock him, and too many people are affected by a numbskull like this guy.

Lighters are allowed on most flights

This going to be a costly nightmare when he gets back home, maybe even prison. Lufthansa will certainly want compensation for the unscheduled landing in India and the German judiciary aren't going to just give him a hand slap for interfering with air traffic operations, that carrys a very stiff penalty I believe.
