Do I need a proof of residence certificate.

They do, they don't..... (require a COR, and reject the pink book)..... perhaps they get a call every now and again from immigration when takings are down!

I don't understand why I need to show my residential address at Jomtien Immigration office. Considering I've used this address for the past 8 years when applying for one year visas and also 90 days reports. It has to be on their data base.

Why don't you go down to immigration and ask your questions. 

 

They have all the answers.

Yes the old they do they don't story, and it's quite believable that immigration need the cash or maybe even have a cash share agreement with the land transport office.

 

In an attempt to clear up any confusion; the brother in law called the Pattaya land transport office today to ask about yellow book status. He was passed over to the dept checking licence paperwork.

 

The following information was given although I doubt if this applies to all offices :-

 

The Pattaya office has not accepted the yellow book for several years when applying or renewing a licence that covers all of Thailand. Some exceptions were made during the Covid lockdown period.

The Yellow book is acceptable if a Chonburi area only licence is required.

The office has decided an immigration resident paper is more reliable for obtaining up to date residence status because it is connected with the latest TM30 information.

Provincial variations; a little further south, this morning for my motorcycle and car licences at Chanthaburi - I'd checked what they wanted by phone yesterday - requested my passport plus pink ID card and yellow house book as proof of identity/address.

 

Arrived ten minutes before opening and was customer #2. Didn't even charge for the multiple photocopies of those items  (two copies for each licence), a 10/10 for service.:clap2:

Yeh they take your medical exam for you, and do the reaction test for you too LOL just joking :cheesy:

Right now here goes.... 

 

I'm on retirement visa which was done via an agent in Pattaya (yes I know it's official name is different).  The 90 day reporting was also done by them when due. 

 

After 6 months I moved to Korat and today did the notification of new address and as the 90 day was coming up killed 2 birds with one stone. 

 

I asked about getting a certificate of residence as I wish to get my Thai driving licence (Car and bike) in Korat. I have full licences in NZ but have been using IDP so far.  My old Chiang Mai licences expired due to returning to NZ for a few years. 

 

I was told that I have to apply of one in Chonburi as that is where my retirement visa was given. WTF? 

 

From what I can see online, you apply at the local immigration office that you submitted your last 90 report to. 

 

So if I go back to Pattaya are they going to give me a residence certificate? Will the Chonburi certificate be accepted by Korat LTA for getting the licences? 

 

It all seems a bit back to front to me but then what do I know. Is this Thai logic/bureaucracy?

One gets differing opinions from different officials here.....any option of finding an agent in Korat to help?

Might be a good idea. 

 

Will check with Korat LTA first to see what their 'rules' or interpretation are. 

 

Like has been mentioned thousands of times, each official will have their own take on how to apply procedures.

3 years ago the answer was yes, you do need a Certificate of Residence. Allow a week to get it. I know it used to be an up the stairs, 10 minute thing, but last time I did it, I went on Thursday, applied same day and was told to come back and pick it up the following Tuesday....luckily one day before my appointment at the driving centre.

After living here that long, a pink ID card would save you all these problems--- I dont know why some people are negative about it--- I find its getting more & more useful as time goes on.

In answer to your question--if you had a card --then no you dont need any other proof of residence , just show it and get your license.

Since it also doubles as a tax ID/Number, and we will all need one of those soon, I tend to agree.

IF your Visa Agent can get your licence renewed, that means you dont need to go through the hassle of getting a Cert of Residence (which should be free, but then it make take a few weeks or according to reports its 500 baht)... 

 

It may be worth taking the visa agent up on his 900 baht offer...   (pay after he secures your renewed licence of course).

Can visa agents get your motorbike licence renewed for you without you having to go to the motor registry with them?

Language is not the only issue. It's abruptness and impatience in a busy loud environment. I can tell you that if I pulled out the phone when I was there I would be directed out or asked to step aside rather quickly, probably before I had even typed in a phrase.

You don't type. You, or they if necessary, speak and voice recognition types for you.

 

Furthermore, you have questions prepared and translated in advance, kept in a notetaking app or just text editor. You simply show those.

Would not work with someone who does not really want to cooperate, but give it a try and let us know how it goes. Maybe things have changed...

How do you know someone won't cooperate?

 

I don't need to try, I never have problems w/ Immigration. You're the one in need. I've used my methods at a busy gov't hospital, and they worked quite well. The answers you need are probably quite short and w/i the English capability of any IO.
