What are most Russians doing here and how are they financing themselves?

Featured Replies

I see many russian families in my project these days,

they seem to be here for months on end

kinda got me thinking.

what are the vast majority of them doing here?

how are they supporting themselves and their families without working?

how long are they going to stay here?

they make lots of noise, especially late at night,

their kids are the worst, shouting and screaming till all hours.

they leave trash everywhere,

i've witnessed their kids spitting on the floor numerous times.

will they ever go home?

why dont they just go back to russia, put on their army uniforms and face the music.

they started the war after all,

best go back home now and fight it imo.

I have MANY properties scattered throughout Thailand.

Some located in tourist ghettos, others not.

Wasn't there an article quoted here a couple weeks ago about Thai people complaining that some Russians worked as taxi drivers and barbers for their compatriots on Phuket?

i'm not running away from a war that my country started though.

They should be on the frontlines, fighting for their supreme leader and hero Putin.

that was kinda my original question.

where is their money coming from?

I know a couple who work here, also others come and go back home. Work usually involves Russian tourists or property

Would you volunteer for the frontlines of any random war that the leader of your great country decided to start?

I have been many times, extreme poverty, and a little better life in a few large cities.

Most probably came to avoid problems associated with the war against Ukraine, liked the vibe and the sunshine and decided to stay.

With large numbers of their compatriots around them doing the same thing, it probably feels like ‘Little Russia.”

Some are opening businesses, some just wealthy, and others working online. Probably a criminal element as well. But that’s the same for all nationalities.

They have as much right as the rest of us to be here, and I don’t doubt there are many nice ones.

Unfortunately for me, I got some bad ones.

They were evicted for constant noise problems and ignoring many polite requests to quieten things down. Drove me and my neighbours mad for months.

Another Russian family two doors away are as quiet as mice.

russians have 90 days of visa-free permission to stay in Thailand until the end of the tourist season, after 90 days they can do border run and have 90 days again. Those who have money open businesses, many work remotely, some work as english teachers,  many sell trips from the Pattaya booths to their fellow countrymen as most of russians do not speak English, that job is illegal, and many work illegally as guides for russian travel companies. Many just stay and live on the beach I personally knew few of them.

I think the inevitable post high season clean up by immigration will require an extra large net next year.

could even be a case for big joke, you never know!
