I have put this in the Pub section because I want to know if any of you guys have done it or did it

The art of MEDITATION

I asked a friend overseas on WhatsApp today he got confused with the other M word.masterbstion

I did try it today to music, meditation that is , , but unfortunately my thoughts drifted back to what I would be doing this week

I'm not talking about sitting in the Lotus position chanting

You are supposed to not think of anything

If you don't meditate are you a "overthinker"

Has meditation even helped you with your anxiety?

It might not even be true ,there's no evidence of course

You think too much ......

regards Worgeordie

I went on a Transcendental Meditation course for a 5 days back in 95, an hour a day with 20 other 'mugs'.

We were given a 'mantra' and told to keep it secret, only for one person. Turns out we all had the same word to 'think about'....KIRIM! and all paid 500 quid for the priviledge. Did nothing for me, and never has done since.

Focus on a single object or thought for as long as possible, after practice it will be second nature.

Meditation can be done anywhere anytime in just about any situation. A method would be to practice compartmentalization.

No not necessarily given that everyone is different.

Yes, meditation has helped me though I’ve never really been an anxious person. It’s helped having a clear mind before a task with work or businesses meetings.

The evidence would be a personal experience.

One doesn’t need to be taught by anyone or go on meditation retreat. Can start with small simple steps, like when laying down before sleep. The way to clear the mind is to concentrate/focus on a singular. When one becomes more accustomed, then they’ll be doing it often on somewhat of a subconscious level.

it sure did. it lightened you of 500 and gave you a great story to tell.

I do a lot of thinking, I don't know if it is meditation.

I doubt I would pay to learn the art.

Be careful someone doesn't lift your wallet while meditating.

I too was recently confused by the two.

I should have been meditating in the Lotus position whilst I found myself masturbating in Lotus's which didn't go down too well with the security staff.....

Yeah I've tried a couple of versions.

Sitting upright on a comfortable chair with my bare feet on the floor and my hands on my lap, listening to a cassette I've had for 40 years through headphones.

There's no mantras or oceans or birds. Just sort of weird sounds.

Works for me.

Doesn't mean it'll work for anyone else, but that's up to them.

I do this every day before sleeping. And indeed, I fall asleep very soon and sleep much better.🙏

I have found a location ideal for (brief) meditation...

Very true🤣 👍

I’ve been actively meditating for fifty years. Very good for having a reasonably balanced life. All the naysayers will have a field day with this as they don’t believe in anything beyond the end of their noses.

Two main types of meditation, active and passive. When most refer to 'meditation' they mean the passive mode but as most experienced martial artists know concentrating on technique(s) (especially combination)s) is active meditation. One must free the mind and just 'do it'. Passive meditation depends on what your aim is; If you want to know who and what you really are you can start with the 'who am I' repetition;if it is calm that you seek focus on a word, say 'relax', or an object that represents (for you) ease, and continue with that. In passive meditation you should use the stomach muscles to breathe whereas in active meditation it is usually expanding the chest

Many years ago I would train and exercise at Tony's gym, life member (LOL).

There was a guy (south African) that used the gym regularly.

Most mornings I'd ask him how he was doing, he'd reply, saying, I woke up checked my email and had a pull (masterbate).

I forgot to mention that he was nearly 80 years old.

Did you let him know your an expert at that? Wayne ?

Expert in the gym, I agree, been going for decades.

I'm not sure if we have any experts here in masterbating,

I'm still middle aged, I thought it was weird, an 80 year old talking about self pleasures 😂

What has had a wonderful impact on my life has been "mindfulness" meditation... it is not uncommon for your mind to drift - just gently bring it back to the meditation.

Check out John Cabot Zinn...

Everything you do can have a meditative aspect - I like walking meditation -
