The National Soft Power Strategy Committee has recognised 11 sectors and activities for promotion as elements of Thailand’s soft power. It has also approved a 3 billion baht budget to support Thai film producers’ participation in three international film festivals.

The sectors and activities include festivals, tourism, food, arts, design, sports, music, books, films, performances, TV series, fashions and games.

At its first meeting at Government House on Tuesday, chaired by Prime Minister Minister Srettha Thavisin, the committee also approved, in principle, the holding of a nation-wide “Maha Songkran World Water Festival” in April this year to promote tourism, according to Government Spokesman Chai Wacharonke.

He said that, during the meeting, the prime minister made observations about the size of the proposed budget for soft power promotion and instructed agencies concerned to make sure that the money is spent efficiently.

what does this soft power actually mean then?

Soft power

In politics, soft power is the ability to co-opt rather than coerce. It involves shaping the preferences of others through appeal and attraction

Which the Thais are quite good at.

I never realised that 'Cloud Cuckoo Land' was here.

Jesus Christ on a biscuit.  The new PM is wasting time and money on this nonsense.

It only costs a few thousand baht tops to enter most film festivals. And only if your film is selected for a showing do you need any extra money to attend. This has "junket scam" written in pulsating blue and pink neon signs all over it.

I would comment but I don't need a suspension.

That's 3 billion wasted then and as usual a considerable portion will end up in the bank accounts of the corrupt committee...

Haven't you learned yet?

Every project/idea dreamed up by the government is a money making scheme but not necessarily for the benefit of the country.
