Wrwest
I would venue to guess most from Western European nations have been taught the saying, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”. Can be more than a bit confusing here in Thailand … then again hypocrisy appears rampant in my home country. Not a bad idea to peruse cultural background notes before visiting a region. Hakuna Matata
According to a study, the sexiest women live in Brazil. The second place is probably shared by Polish and Ukrainian women who are always ready to have sex with people they barely know. Certainly, an easy catch for playboys. "cultural laws", which aren't laws at all (but I know what you mean...). I think this is a case of simply people projecting their xenophobic, insecurities. They think their culture is superior and so they think that foreigners also think that their own culture is superior to Thai culture and thus become offended over nonsensical things. I've seen Thai people sitting on lawns around Thai temples and there are commonly festivals at temples when people relax on the lawns, eating and drinking and OMG! They might even lay down while relaxing! They might even do it in the sun! Although usually in the shade... It isn't sunbathing, but what on earth is the difference. People are enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the temple grounds, maybe even meditating, maybe while laying down. I didn't read of an issue being made of their clothes, but of their activity, which is not at all significantly different from that of Thais. They do it, but foreigners cannot because only Thai people can behave in informal ways in areas that if held in a strict traditional view, could be considered inappropriate, and if a foreigner would do it, it won't be considered as only poor taste or just people behaving informally when maybe formal behavior may be preferred. Oh no! It's straight out offensive! It's just another clear example of their projecting of xenophobia and insecurities. Just for the heck of it, thought I'd include some shocking examples of relaxing on the temple lawns.... some, even while sitting directly in the sun! I suspect the real situation is very different. I suspect many people are tortured into confessing as the poor guy whose mad wife was killed by youths including a son of a policeman. I have several examples of people who were coerced into selling drugs including yaba by police: 'sell drugs for us or you are going to prison'. I would love to see the real numbers of crimes solved. Like you I'm a bit appalled at police spending their time with petty stuff leaving serious criminal stuff unsolved and traffic law enforcement at zero as thousands die on the road. Having said that, police are a bit of a soft target. The rampant corruption, caused in part, by a totally inadequate wage structure that needs supplementation by donations from motorists. They are very young and, obviously, being so young they were totally ignorant of their transgressions. I am sure they meant no harm. If only they had done some reading, instead of sunbathing, before arriving! 1 1

It just says that they were sunning themselves. In total an interesting, varied profession, executed with passion🙏😂
