SCAM in Cowboy

Warning for all those out there. At least a couple of bars in Cowboy are scamming punters.

I will not mention the names, due to Thailand's laws, but one is a reference to memory in French and the other is a time that 7Eleven stop selling booze.

 

Taking into account that I have been here 24 years and my mates are far from bar novices, and in their 60s. No one was drunk. This is not Patpong....

 

Order a lady drink and she brings two (a shot and a cola). In bars in Nana this is classed as one drink and costs about 200B.

More girls turn up and when you offer/say yes to a drink for the new girl, ALL the girls on the table get a shot and a cola, not just the extra lass. And the price of these lady drinks is 300B each glass, so you're looking at 600B/pop/lady.

There's a chitty/bill that the lady asks you to write your name on, but it's not like a bill in a plastic pot like normal bars. For me, it was in her bikini bottoms.

 

Then when the punters question 'what's going on here?' and it all kicks off, the management say 'you signed for it, and it's all on CCTV'

 

Two mates had one beer each and the bill was 4,300B but I negotiated down to the 3,000B that they had signed for.

Two mates and I had one beer each and the bill was 2,700B.

 

We all know that there are a few options to resolve the situation, and each has his own way. Yes it cost us a lot, and we made our feelings very clear in Thai language, and in a Thai way.

As I wrote, this is not Patpong and we have all been to many many bars before, hundreds of times and none of us were drunk. Yes, we should know better, but if we can get caught, others are likely to as well.

Stickman, in his weekly column, has reported similar practices in recent weeks, as have his readers, with bar owners often turning a blind eye it seems.

 

Who will accept such crap? Do they care about regular customers, or have they gone native; i.e. scamming as much out of everyone while they can, not bothering whether they will ever return?

Agreed. It always bothered me in a bar, how many lady drinks would actually end up on my bill, so I didn't order. Better less female company than having to worry about getting scammed, as I always knew exactly what I had ordered for myself.

Some of those chicks sell so many lady drinks per night (up to 40!) that they don't even go with customers anymore.

I guess according to the famous column it is some kind of potential reservation system.... but not really.

 

So, again.... why bother? You get a company of a robot with a pre-scripted text... is that it? Orders a robot from Aliexpress.

I expect to get robbed, but that's ok if I am having a good time with some mates.....do I go behind or upstairs for short time, no I just go to flirt and I'm up front with the girls I ask for, so she doesn't waste her time.

It must be some kind of social credit score thing where you earn extra special bonus points for being seen in public hanging out in a seedy dive buying overpriced colored water for bored hookers.

Well, these girls can't dance, so we're not going in there to see them perform.

Any guys going in the bars would likely be attracted to these kinds of ladies, so why not have one sit on your lap for a drink? In western strip joints, guys stick tipping dollars in their clothing as a sign of appreciation and to get danced near.

If you're not interested in flirting with the girls, then what's the point of being in the bar?

If you're not interested in going in the bars, then why read and comment on the post?

For example, I never go in the gay, tech, Pattaya or gardening sub forums, because I have no interest there.

i don't drink, don't want or need prostitutes, however, went to one of these places with a mate that hangs out there, looked to me like it was all about ego, low self esteem, look at me... really quite sad and pathetic, then there's this degrading thing they do with throwing table tennis balls around getting the girls to chase after them.

 

it's a free world, and everyone to their own, but it really didn't do anything for me.

The only type of bar i would go to like that and pay a premium for my own drinks would be somewhere like the Windmill in Pattaya, then if one of the show girls lets me have a grope then i will tip her with cash.

Well, this posting was about one of the best known 'tourist' areas in Bangkok.

Strange though it seems, not all bars are like that.

Mind you, I have not been to Soi Cowboy for about 5 - 7 years and it certainly was not like that then.

As for Pattaya, I would be going back 15 - 20 years.

When we lived in Bangkok, my wife was quite happy to go with me and a friend and talk to the girls in the bars there. She enjoyed chatting to them. In spite of stereotypes, they are human beings.

Here on Samui, things are different. Apart from December to March, the girl's earnings are limited. I go with friends to the bars in Chaweng about every three to four months outside of high season.

The girls know us and are quite happy to come and chat with us - until some young stud walks in. Then they go off. Sometimes they leave with the punter, otherwise they come back and talk to us. They all know that we never bar fine the girls.

I am a widower and I am not interested in a relationship at my age but it is always nice to chat with a pretty young girl with no hassle and no strings attached. Their stories can be quite entertaining.

We never go to Go Go bars. Too noisy.

Yes. we would buy them the occasional drink as we would anywhere in the world and we were chatting to a young lady.

Each to his own.

Windmill is now 220 for lady drink, 260 cocktail lady drink, the other day i offered a girl 100 baht for something, usually accepted, she wanted 500. The old guard have gone and the girls are greedy.

In the old days 40 years ago used to discretely slip the girls 20 baht instead of wasting money on lady drinks. Everybody happy.

 

Then the sex tourists turned up in swarms and the fun went out of it. Not been in a bar for at least 25 years. No need. Better watering holes well away from the tourist traps.

I would not sign anything. It's still a cash society.  If more drinks come then I ordered then get up and tell the manager they were not ordered. Even better, get a drink menu. The price can be whatever they want if you don't have a menu.

 

If they still demand 1k per guy then tourist police settle it.

The point is that if one wants to decide to take her out for the night, it helps if they stay with the punter for a while so he can talk to her. If there isn't a drink in it the girl isn't going to hang around OR guys just have loadsacash and like being generous to the ladies or having them sitting there with them.

 

Waaaay back I'd offer them 20 baht to sit with me, but that was when that was all they'd get as their cut from a lady drink so they would sit with me for the cash. Sometimes they'd even sit with me for nothing.

It used to be well known that bars padded the chit cup with extra bills, so one was advised to check every time that there were only the correct number of bills , OR pay every time a drink came.

I was never asked to sign anything in any bar I went into in Thailand, ever!

However, I'd look in the bar before I sat down and if it looked dubious I would leave, so only drank in decent bars.

The girls have been greedy for a long time.

 

Many years ago I took one Nana Gogo girl out for a few days and we had a good time together, but the next time I went back ( 6 months later ) her price per day had doubled, so that was the last I saw of her.

I always have a great time in Soi Cowboy in bars that are not owned by the "Arab" which are:

Crazy House, Baccara, Shark, Susie Wong, Dollhouse, Rainbow, Tilac and Long Gun. Never got scammed and girls are very hands on in these bars.
