Liquid-cooling ...

Featured Replies

My youngest in the UK is building his new PC, no expense spared (he's heavily in to flight-sim and other gaming).

He sent me some photos.

My first impression?

Where does it dispense the coffee??

His reaction was unprintable!

He needs to send you some photos with the lights out.  Some of the cooling systems could double as light shows.

Gotta admit, I'm not a gamer.  Never have been.  As a consequence, I cut my computer costs by half, buying last year's CPU.  If I paid double for this year's, I'm still behind the 8 ball in 6 months or so.  With fingers crossed that my socket will accept next year's CPU.

At first I thought this was about cars, or beer going by the Title.

I guess as a teenager all this makes sense and I also liked a good show when I was young.

In real life, air cooling is just fine. My current PC, now 7 years old, is overclocked to 4.5GHz, with air cooling, and it works just fine.

IMHO there is no need to cool with water as long as air works just fine.

Best is to dunk the whole thing in a nonconductive liquid bath.

The sky is the limit when it comes to mod'ding computers.  My youngest son is right into it and is now employed by a computer manufacturer in NZ.

Small but high end stuff, bit of a niche market really.

Imbi towers in KL was a great place to shop for the latest parts.  I use to go there quite a bit when working in the ME during my transit back to NZ.

Nowadays I just stick to a mini system.  Nothing flash but it works.

What do you 'print' on that? Genuinely interested.

I assume you dont play computer games 24/7 in Thailand.

Mostly prototyping jig fixtures for my work.

Ive never played a computer game.

Liquid cooling is the best, I even do it myself right now by sitting in the waterfall while working.

Interesting - may I ask what work - designing parts for manufacturing? I have looked at 3d printers and they amaze me - a brilliant innovation - never used one though.  I worked in IT&T and Computers from 1970s to 2010s - saw a lot of innovations.

Fixtures for manufacturing. I don't design the parts.

Automotive industry.

The Cray-1, the original "Supercomputer" used this technique with a CFC fluid called "Fluoroinert".
