If it kicks off big style the distruption will be catastrophic as other countries back one side or the other

I've just booked a flight which normally overflys the region albeit some months in advance

Seems I'm going home when everything heats up again. Hope it will be over in a few days.

I have a transit in Doha in June, I'm sure the IDF will have things taken care of by then.........😁

A friend of mine flew last night via Doha. There was a delay during stopover of 5 hours.

One of my lads is in Dubai currently with his Girlfriend due back Sunday

He's on Saudia via Jeddah back to Gatwick

He messaged this morning asking do you think there will any problems

EVA Air. Last night's flight from LHR to BKK arrived BKK today only 2 minutes late.

Today's flight from BKK to LHR departed BKK 2 minutes early and is due to land at LHR in about 40 minutes, which will be 30 minutes ahead of schedule.

I am keeping an eye on things as I will be flying LHR to BKK in 3 weeks time.

Very good info - thank you!

My trip is within 3 weeks. Maybe best I don't stop at Doha.

Damn I hate flying EVA. They're late all the time.

Which route? I must have flown the BKK-SFO route at least a dozen times over the past 10-15 years, changing planes in TPE. Never more than a few minutes late.

It was sarcasm. Sorry you missed it. I have flown EVA exclusively for 10 or 15 years.

Israel (Iran, Yemen, maybe Syria too), India-Pakistan, Russian airspace closed owing to sanctions, Ukraine closed, soon there will be no flight routes left at all. Idiots everywhere roaming around with MANPADS. Scary and difficult times ahead for airtravel.

So from the screenshots above, it seems even now Northern Pakistan can still be overflown?

And here we go again, just before I was going to leave. Anyone had any problems leaving or arriving?

Interesting times indeed

I think India-Pakistan is more critical for flights in and out of Thailand.

FYI, many Emirates nighttime departing flights between DXB and BKK are being held in DXB at the gate for 3 ~ 4 hours, preferring to fly in daylight (some are saying).

Friends on EK 384 (16 June) were held at DXB for 4:25, pushing arrival from 12:30 to 16:47. Their CDG-DXB flight was + 1:10 owing, in part, to extended routing.

I checked quite a few other DXB-BKK flights. All delayed in the 3 + hour range.

I extend another week, and see. No rush to go back yet.

Not the first war in the region. Flights have always found alternative routes. I would be more scared now to sit in a Boeing.

Great news few days prior to my upcoming flight wich I already changed. Continue to add a bit tension these conflicts in Asia and Middle East. Maybe just the beginning of a new area.

Qatar changed my flight and got only 50 min stopover/connection time from 1:30 which normally is okay, but still minimum what I'm comfortable with.

A bit stressful right now if you ask me.

Just trying to get through to live chat and an agent. Live chat 30 min waiting time. Never experienced longer than 5-7 min before

They skipped me back up to 30 minutes twice, and not possible to get hold of them anywhere, so I guess they are busy today. And also Sunday if that matters.

Thai got direct flight for 13 400,- so I canceled Qatar, booked direct flight back home.

It is indeed, but it's always possible to do what SWISS does on it's westbound flight out of BKK bound for Zurich (and ITA and sometimes Air France and KLM do it too), which is to fly over southern India, Dubai, then Iraq. This avoids Pakistani airspace as well as Iranian airspace (the latter isn't critical; as flights that use Afghan and Turkmenistan airspace are actually shorter anyway).

I noticed that during the recent India-Pakistan dispute, THAI chose Iran, rather than Iraq as a country to overfly, even though even before the 12 day Iran-Israel war, Iraq was definitely the safer of the two airspaces. Even more concerning is THAI often overflew the western part of Iran, though this only occurred for a period of around 2 weeks.

However, since the ceasefire, THAI was actually the first non-regional carrier to resume Pakistan-Afghanistan overflights. Unlike European carriers, they never overfly Dubai and Saudi Arabia or Dubai + Iraq (perhaps because they lack the permissions)? Hence why their flights in both directions are always over Afghanistan.

These days, they generally fly along one of two flight paths over the country. At first they were using the Wakhan corridor, but by overflying Afghanistan directly, they save fuel and time.

SWISS on the other hand has some kind of bizarre aversion to Afghanistan overflights, never once having overflown the country on it's Bangkok/Singapore/Hong Kong flights, yet they do overfly Afghanistan on their Delhi flights and sometimes their Mumbai ones too. This doesn't make any sense, when virtually every other carrier is using Afghan airspace. Instead, SWISS flies over the Wakhan corridor, extending flight times by 30-45 minutes compared to flying over Afghanistan. On their Delhi/Mumbai flights, they use an A330 and for the other 3 East Asian destinations, it's a 777-300ER, though not sure that makes a difference, considering THAI uses the exact same 777-300ER on it's ZRH flights and has no issue overflying Afghanistan.

Last year, SWISS was the first non-regional carrier to resume Iran overflights. How they made the assessment that Iran overflights are safer than Afghanistan ones, when virtually every other carrier in the world makes the opposite assessment beats me.  Since the Iran-Israel war, they have not yet resumed Iran overflights. Instead, they generally operate over the Wakhan corridor eastbound and Iraq westbound, absolutely refusing to overfly Afghanistan.

Next route back to Europe will be Vancouver - Munich - Oslo?

Just arrived less than a month ago, and leaving in 2 weeks. I got 3 flights already booked, so again this conlict and war brings a little concern. If the flights will be be going as planned, at least I do not need to worry about higher fuel prices.

Anyone been flying in and out lately? Any complications for you guys?

I'm watching the daily progress of my planned flight in three weeks which normally flies over Europe to the North of Iran.
