Midnight Mayhem: Tiger on the Prowl Alarms Thailand Locals

A community in Thailand was thrown into a state of alarm after a tiger emerged in the dead of night, apparently attacking residents. The incident took place in the early hours of today, May 16, when a tiger cub was spotted within a residential area of Bang Pakong, Chachoengsao, causing chaos and prompting an urgent response from local authorities and rescue teams.

The tiger sighting was reported to Deputy Inspector Pongphop Kudhom of the Bang Pakong Police Station at approximately 3.30am. Upon receiving the call, Pongphop and his patrol unit, along with the Chachoengsao rescue team, rushed to the scene located in Soi Bang Wua-Bang Jak 7 in Moo 11, Bang Wua Sub-district.

What they found was a village rattled by an unexpected visitor, a medium-sized tiger, resting outside a home in the area.

The house, numbered 12/2 in Moo 11, belonged to 23 year old Thanapol, whose last name has been withheld for privacy. Thanapol and his fellow residents were stunned to find the wild animal lying in front of his property.

The rescue team, with the help of the locals, attempted to coax the tiger into the open so that it could be safely captured. However, the animal became aggressive, causing some villagers to flee in terror.

While the initial assumption was that the animal was a stray dog, it became evident that it was a young tiger when it started biting people. The situation escalated as the tiger attacked a journalist’s leg, leading to a tense and frantic 10-minute attempt to lure the animal out of the residential area and into the street for capture.

Rescue workers tried to subdue the tiger with a cloth but it grew increasingly agitated and began to bite more ferociously, injuring rescuers, police officers, and the journalist with its sharp teeth, leaving their pants torn and skin scraped.

Eventually, the rescue team managed to apprehend the tiger and secure it in the back of a rescue vehicle. The police documented the incident and took custody of the tiger, which was then delivered to the Regional Wildlife Conservation Office No. 2 (Si Racha) for appropriate handling.

Twenty-one-year-old Chayanan recounted the harrowing experience, revealing that he was driving Thanapol home on a motorcycle when they encountered the tiger in the middle of the street. Initially mistaking it for a dog, they realised their mistake as the animal approached, identifying it as a tiger. The two men quickly fled to Thanapol’s house, with the tiger in pursuit, leading to an emergency call for assistance.

They deal with a lot of (often dangerous) snakes, but I doubt a juvenile tiger is generally within their remit. I wonder how you would've handled it?!

Why? Is the Tiger going to send his mates round to sort him out

So, not so stunned to se the tiger on his property then.

Not the place you'd expect to find a tiger normally.

Can't say the response sounded too professional either.

This is the craziest part of the whole scene.  Sgt. Plod and his boys rushing to the scene at 3:30AM.

Wow! Quite amazing that it took the cub to bite them before they realized it's not a dog! 🤪

An unforgettable adventure.....for the Tiger...and involved people🙏

This smells like a silly AI generated story from basic facts. Name withheld for privacy alongside their full address? Maybe mistake a tiger cub for a pussy-cat cat, not a dog.

Don’t vets have tranquilizer guns here? If not, maybe the police should have them as they like guns.

No,it is a sign for Thai people how to pick the next lottery numbers.

most private vets here would be very unlikely to have tranquiliser guns.

if it is anything like in the West, licensing required to own and operate tranquiliser guns is more stringent than regular guns.   blow darts would be more likely - but the likelihood of finding an experienced vet willing to come at 3:30 am here would be very low!

Was just watching the response team falling all over themselves chucking what looked like towels over the tiger then a half hearted attempt to subdue it. Tiger was having a great playtime if nothing else. Smartest guy was the one who just picked it up and chucked it into the back of the police ute.
What would they have done of that was a rabid pit bull or the like..? Woefully undertrained, enthusiastic and well meaning, but…

they need to cage it or put it down. A tiger that has had the taste of human blood will become a maneater. I sure hope they do not put it back into the wild

Just send a Bentley convertible to pick up the cub

This appears to be a popular big cat mode of transport  :whistling:

What an absolutely heart-stopping ordeal! The way that tiger cub turned the peaceful village of Bang Pakong into a scene from a horror movie is beyond belief! The villagers must have been terrified out of their wits, with a wild beast roaming their streets in the dead of night. The chaos and panic must have been overwhelming.

Hats off to Deputy Inspector Pongphop Kudhom and the brave rescue team for facing such a ferocious beast with unparalleled courage. Their bravery and quick action in confronting the tiger and protecting the community are truly commendable. The scene outside house number 12/2 must have been sheer pandemonium, with everyone in disbelief at the sight of the tiger.

This incident is a stark reminder of nature's unpredictable fury and the bravery required to face it. It's incredible how the rescue workers and police officers managed to subdue the tiger despite the danger. This will definitely be a story told for generations, a tale of terror and heroism that the people of Bang Pakong will never forget.
