Beloved Brit found dead in Thailand hotel room

GFM seems to be the choice for many families when one dies in Thailand.  

I think the cremation here and ashes in the backpack or post is alot simpler and obviously cheaper.

 

There's been zero mention of a Thai gf or his mobile or cc's being located in the hotel room.  Did something go wrong, did things go missing.  

many questions need answers.

He died of "Died Suddenly."  It happens all the time nowadays to people under 50.  Probably sunspots.  🙄

Whatever the cause I empathize with the apparent shock his family is experiencing.

Yet more so for the tragic death of an unsupervised toddler crossing a soi.

So what. Why do you need to know right now? Maybe these are the only details released. What's wrong with you? Do you not know the process of how these types of deaths work? Accept for now he's died. What are the circumstances? Maybe, just maybe we'll have to wait.

For the price of reparations for a dead body, a couple of family members can travel to Thailand and have his body cremated.

Yes, we will. Thing is we still might not know but I guess it doesn't matter if we know or not I just hope the family gets a satisfactory reason.

10K quid to repatriate a corpse.  I'd give that GFM a pass as it's not a matter of life or death as "death" has already won.  There are inexpensive ways to handle this.

 

I've always said, I don't want my family to spend a dime on my death......just collect the money and throw my corpse in the street.

Often in cases like this, friends and extended family want to contribute, and GFM accounts and similar are a handy way of doing that.

 

Does not mean they are "begging" for hand outs from strangers. And no reason for strangers to take offense at it.

 

As to the decision to bring back the body -- their business.

How come the death toll of loner falang tourists is so high in Thailand ? In no other country do tourists pass away so fast. Very sad for the deceased and his family - RIP.

 

P.S. It's up to the British Embassy to pay all expenses and then settle with the family back in UK.

 

London sends billions of pounds worth money and arms to Ukraine so they can surely help their own when in trouble abroad.

Presumably he didn't have travel insurance to cover getting him back to Wales,if he was 'footloose and fancy free' the chances are he didn't think about the future in which case he wouldn't have a will either,his death will have come as a nasty shock to his family and friends and they possibly won't be thinking sensibly ie have him cremated and take the ashes back to the UK.

As for the GFM - it's amazing to me how is it possible that so many families don't even have money saved up for emergencies. Or is it that they do have the money but want other people to pay for it? that's even worse.

Some cost for sure. See this from Kevin Bell Trust : While the cost can be a major barrier for most families who have to repatriate a loved one's body from abroad – costs per repatriation can cost up to £12,000 (€14,000) depending on the circumstances of the death, local charges and hospital release costs – there is also a lot of “red tape”.

 

But some families like a grave stone and a grave I guess. It beats maybe telling the kids/ mother wife/.. well 4 people turned up at your daddys funeral and we not sure where the ashes are now. Some drunken expat threw them in the pattaya bay sinkhole 😞

“We are asking all those who knew and loved Browny to help us bring him back home. As a family, we are now trying to bring Simon back home so that we can lay him to rest at his home in Swansea. Thanks to all those who have reached out and sent messages of condolence, and we appreciate any help you can give.”

 

The GoFundMe campaign, created on Wednesday, has seen an outpouring of support, with nearly 50 donations, including one generous contribution of £500, reported Mirror UK.

 

The Thai authorities have yet to disclose the cause of death or where he was in Thailand when he died.
