Do you consider George Floyd a hero?

Featured Replies

Do you consider George Floyd a hero or just another Serial criminal who was addicted to drugs?

At his worst, Mr. Floyd was a drug addict and ex-con who did hard time for a 2007 robbery in which he terrorized a Hispanic woman who was at home with a baby, and absentee parent to his older children, one of whom didn’t recognize him when his photo appeared two weeks ago on television.

Nope, just a career criminal, and unless rehabilitated in the future, can't see how society isn't better without him around.

Paraphrased rom wiki ...

"Criminal convictions

Between 1997 and 2005, Floyd served eight jail terms on various charges, including drug possession, theft, and trespass.

In 2007, Floyd faced charges for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon; according to investigators, he had entered an apartment by impersonating a water department worker and barging in with five other men, then held a pistol to a woman's stomach and searched for items to steal"

But also, as far as I know, the police used a lot more force than necessary.

In a civilized country the police should use necessary force, and not more than that. That is part of being civilized.

If the police use excessive force, and people get the impression that they do that especially for one race, that is a way to destroy the trust in the police.

Should have just tased the bloke, a known AH ..........🤔

Hero to the left

His death has cost billions !

His disobedience was a key factor in his demise, that and the extreme amount of Narcotics in his system!

In 4 years time the usual suspects & activist are

still trying to legitimize his behavior !

They erected statues to him while declaring his death a racial issue.

How many times have we seen thugs being stopped by police , still disobeying police commands.

The left has to stoke racial animosity as one of the ways to destroy civil society.

It isn't about him being a criminal but about the absolute vile beating by the police, which tends to happen quite a bit with black people even when they are innocent.

Not a hero but not someone who deserved to die. Most on the left saw it like this and considered some reforms in policing may be a good thing.

Some on the extremes used terms like Defund the Police which from day 1 was a terrible slogan - even if components of what was being asked for had some merit - and the whole left including Biden - who never made such a call - are being tarnished by the right for this ever since.

Some here think they can get the moral high ground - and offset the ridiculousness of their candidate - by bringing up such topics - but ask yourself if Biden's policies on crime are ridiculous or a different person's who talks about shooting petty criminals and such.

I agree with your statement.

What does that even mean?

He held a gun to a pregnant womans stomach...

... No, he was far from a hero - he was a criminal...      But, that is also different from the necessity of police reform in the US where their heavy tactics killed him...

Would the police have treated a white career criminal the same way, perhaps... who knows.

This was an already incendiary sitation looking for a spark... I think at the time it could have been any mistreatment of a black-guy that triggered these events...  though I do find an element of hypocrisy that it happend to be this man painted as an innocent saint to drum up the extent of outrage that it did.

You believe the Police deliberately killed him ??? - thats quite an extreme accusation.

From the videos I recall, I see the police acting in a very heavy handed manner to restrain him, perhaps necessary with a career criminal, but their actions were that of poor training and their actions were negligent leading to his death, so illegal, yes.. murder, no.

Act to make it so all are treated fairly by the police. Through sensible reforms and training. Blacks have through history got the roughest treatment by the police so they are the focal point. Often individuals deserved what they got from police but a significant subset have been treated unfairly by police  and this is for them. It is better now though.

The right wing media though will see 10 reforms over a period of time - 9 good and 1 ridiculous - and they'll show the 1 ridiculous one only as an example of the left being stupid and self indulgent - the viewers can feel smug that reform is not needed and is a waste of time. Even though over a longer time period it clearly was needed and things have improved.  If you keep that in mind the left may seem a bit less bad.

The left believes what they are told to believe. You can count on your hands the number of unarmed black men killed by the police in an average year.

And it's always racism in the cities run by the left, even when the mayor is black, the city council is black and the chief of police is black.

He did a petty crime - was not overly aggressive or violent - and ended up dead.  If Biden  talked about the topic of targeted fair reforms to stop something like this happening - among many topics he deals with each day - then that is not a bad thing.

Same $hit different day , excuses for crimes & drugs  . The left is gaslighting everyone to believe , its the police fault & the criminal ( in this case a  serial criminal) is a victim!
