Thailand is moving forward with plans to legalize casinos as part of broader entertainment zones aimed at bolstering state revenue and enhancing its standing as a premier tourism hub, according to government spokesman Chai Wacharonke.

 

However, these ambitious plans are unlikely to include Hua Hin or its surrounding areas as potential sites for these developments.

 

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has instructed an expedited study on comprehensive entertainment venues, which are expected to bring in significant tax revenue. The government estimates first-year tax revenue from these venues could reach at least 12 billion baht. This directive came after a recent Cabinet meeting, where the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of moving swiftly on this initiative.

 

“The Prime Minister has ordered the Cabinet to follow up on the implementation of comprehensive entertainment venues,” said Chai Wacharonke, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office. “He directed the Ministry of Finance to have Deputy Minister Julaphan Amornwiwat conduct a detailed study and expedite the implementation of these venues to develop concrete operational guidelines.”

What a relief.

The big piece of empty seafront land north of Jomtien and south of Pattaya Park might be a contender.

There are only three sites, Bangkok, Phuket pr Pattaya.

Of course not, those snobbie weekend visitors from Bangkok would not be pleased with that at all in Hua Hin.

Pattaya or Phuket?

Phuket would be the 1st choice given the number of rooms, international airport, hospitals,  and on the cruise ship route

I can only guess it will be same legalized as Singapore & Cambodia, where locals are Not allowed in, ( without special permits)

Give it to Phuket. The police like to control there, so no problems to be expected

The Ambassador City Hotel Jomtien (a few km south of Pattaya) has been rumoured  to  become the first casino in Thailand.

 

The newly completed 10-lane dual carriageway gives direct access from Pattaya, and the newly completed M7 link connects it to Bangkok in just 70 minutes (by car).

 

The hotel has over 4,000 rooms (currently almost empty) plus many conference/meeting rooms that could be easily converted to casino/slot machine areas.

 

If I was a betting man, I would place a few quid on this place to be the first casino in LOS.

Maybe so, but what about the 50,000-odd residents of Hua Hin?

Good news, the less chinese the better.

I hope Thailand can learn from the mistakes Cambodia has made. Practically let the Chinese take over Sinhoukville and Poipet. 

Thank God! Don't need horses of chain-smoking Chinese polluting the area.
