Bangkok Taxi Driver Drags Motorcyclist's Bike for a Kilometre

A minor altercation between a motorcyclist, 40-year-old Wicharaphon, and a taxi driver took a terrifying turn this morning on Chaeng Watthana Road, Nonthaburi. What began as a near miss quickly escalated into a road rage incident where the taxi dragged Wicharaphon's motorcycle over a kilometre, ending with a crash into a utility pole.

 

At around 7.40am, the scene under Rama IV Bridge became chaotic as traffic police and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers responded. A Bangkok-registered taxi was found in the median, its driver inside, seemingly unresponsive and complaining of chest pain. The severely damaged black Yamaha motorcycle lay nearby. 

According to eyewitnesses, the incident originated on Rama IV Bridge. Video footage captured by a bystander, Jaroenpong, showed the taxi dragging the motorcycle from the bridge down to the crash point. 

 

Jaroenpong, who also rides a motorcycle, narrated his encounter. Heading to work, he spotted flashing lights and the taxi colliding with the motorcyclist's bike. The taxi relentlessly reversed and moved forward, dragging the bike along. Jaroenpong recorded the scene and alerted police nearby.

Wicharaphon, who had left his home in Bang Bua Thong, described how the taxi, initially in the far-right lane, abruptly moved to the middle lane, nearly causing an accident.

 

When Wicharaphon stopped to question the taxi driver, the taxi accelerated, knocking his bike over. Despite injuries, Wicharaphon tried to stop the escalating situation but ended up having to leap to the bridge's edge to avoid further harm. 

 

The taxi continued to drag the motorcycle, prompting a desperate chase. Jaroenpong followed, recording the pursuit until the taxi, failing to dislodge the bike against the curb, crashed into the median. 

 

Inside the taxi, the driver was found with his seatbelt fastened, eyes closed, and generally unharmed. Meanwhile, Wicharaphon sustained injuries to his leg and hand. Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine the full extent of legal actions required.

Ban him for 5 years from driving and life from driving a taxi

This type of action should be more criminal. Not just a fine and removing his license. He risked the lives of many other drivers by his actions. Surely, he did it deliberately as well.

This is such an extreme and callous act, this fool should have his license permanently revoked, be fined a million baht, and be arrested for assault.

Probably he would defend himself by talking about that Ferrari driver who did the same, and killed a police officer, and nothing happened to the driver. TiT.

It was not his fault , he will say ... something went into his body and took over ...

Thailand seriously needs to review and increase traffic and other fines, these 500 baht fines are a real joke, nobody is scared of doing anything illegal, knowing it will cost them next to nothing if they are caught!

You need a society that abides by the law, and effective law enforcement for that to have any effect.

The motorcycle shouldn't been driving there in the first place since mc:s are not allowed on overpasses in Bangkok. I'm sometimes very annoyed of these crazy guys on two wheels swarming around my car on both sides. But with that said, if the taxidriver did that on purpose they should fine him, jail him and revoke his licence.

Yeah, after he understood that he had a motorcycle stuck under his car. It´s totally understandable, as many would have a breakdown out of something like that. 😂

However, it might also be that he just thought it was the engine sounding again. 😉

In the New World, people believe in "grey areas", which is why things are getting worse.....take the US and their new Progressive Liberal justice departments, civil responsibility is now gone, and crime is spiking out of control. But yes, fine them and jail them.....I for one believe in Black and White rules, that we we keep a civil society, unlike the madness on display on the streets of Thailand.
