Now Google Map listings (hotels & restaurants) may include this and other silliness ...

image.png.49e1ee991cd7daa95eb77f3acea39924.png

Just imagine if it was ...

... straight friendly

... white friendly

... black friendly

The outrage that would follow ... :coffee1:

Not sure if I should be embarrassed, offended, outraged, or boycott an establishment that states such silliness.  Did visit and test the restaurant I pulled that off their listing.  And the OMG reviews were way off, and a disappointing meal, especially for cost.  3 course meal and still left hungry ... sad.

Shouldn't LGBTQ+ have an S in their somewhere, or are straight people not welcome?

Do not complicated things by asking to much.

I also saw at least two ladyboy bars in NANA. I ignored them.

Are you saying that they are highlighted on Google Maps as ladyboy bars?

Perhaps "LGBTQ+ friendly" is a cautionary notice to heterosexuals and to sty away.

If at all, it would have to be H, for heterosexuals, but once you add that to the alphabet soup it becomes the equivalent of "everybody"

Isn't "inclusive" the latest addition to the vocabulary of political correctness? An inlusive bar or restaurant or hotel, etc.

I don't know. I never even thought about using Google Maps to find a bar in Nana.

Walking inside Nana, it's pretty obvious, at least for most of us.

So I'd describe myself as a fully paid up bleeding heart liberal.

For all my life I never got why people of different sexual orientations could be so abused.

I think for most of us here we are of an age when 'gay bashing' was a real thing.

Thankfully, for the most part we have moved on from those rather dark days.

Then you get to now. I think I recognized things were going a little weird when we got to 'pronouns'

I started to notice work emails had the signature him/he, she/her, the list goes on

This was a generational thing and I called my daughter to actually have to explain to me what the Hell was going on, because I genuinely had no idea

Then we go down the rabbit hole of physical men who identify as a woman participating in women's sports, it's just insane.

It's put this bleeding heart liberal in a position of horribly siding with the right.

I work on the principle that everyone has the right to be who they are, and I don't care straight, gay, bi, live your life the best you can.

But this uber 'woke' and I hate using that word, has to be a phase that will burn itself out

Perhaps it should not, because straight people tend to ignore this drivel!

As long as they're 'joiner friendly', I'm not that bothered!

Default boycott any and all businesses that is remotely slightly annoying, just makes life simpler.

You've been able to list your business as LGBTQ+ since 2018. Maybe they've just added icons now.

You'll just have to troll around the internet for something else LGBTQ+ to be offended and outraged by. 🙂

It still is. It's just more cowardly now; done by proxy and online.

You might be right there.

I live in a deep red State, and curiously I was talking to one of my employees who is gay, how hard it was for him to come out.

His answer was complicated.

Now he is from a mixed native American family. He openly admitted that certain members of his family haven't spoken to him since he came out, while others said 'about time'

But then he described the online stuff. Snide comments never actually saying anything, but the reading between the lines stuff just designed to rattle and hurt him.

This guy is one of the most gentle humans I have ever met, same age as my eldest daughter and I look at him as my surrogate son.

Why people just can't let folks live their lives in whatever way they want baffles me. Not hurting anyone, not trying to 'recruit' me just like the rest of us getting through the day.

The one thing he did admit was that in certain communities the acceptance of homosexuality can be very different.

I think the higher up the food chain you get the more acceptance there is.

In the Native American community I think it's 50:50. I have a very good African American friend who is a Bishop in an evangelical church, and I know thats not an issue I would even dare to discuss.

So you're right it's still there, but not in the overtly physical hatred that it once was

I agree there, I'm not gay, but I have nothing against them as long as they don't bother me.

Transgenders is a different animal though, and they better don't come too close

All hotels are gay or straight friendly.

It's already become overcomplicated.

Exactly ... finally someone gets it, hence title of thread.

I agree. It's just the people who run them that aren't always. 🙂

Your original post referenced Google Maps who added the LGBT+ - friendly notice in 2018 and appear to have recently changed the notice to an icon. This was in response to a number of people stating that some hotels were hostile or discriminatory to LGBT+ persons. They wouldn't have bothered otherwise. These notices are not aimed at you, so why get your knickers in a knot?

Nothing in a knot, just an observation, as I don't care who owns a business or their clientele, as stated, I did test out the restaurant no matter.

And in TH, I find it hard to believe, unless in the South, that anyone would be hostile or discriminatory toward the alphabet folks.   Unless overly flamboyant, how the hell would they know.

Well ... Except maybe for the Atlanta hotel in BKK, if still in operation.

And who cares if it's a woman owning, male, or other :cheesy:  Especially since the 'owner' may never be there.   There were 2 women, playing customer service, and the chef is supposed to be a male, so again, 'info I don't need'.

More importantly, were the OMG reviews, that were way off.  Even taking them with a huge grain of salt, I was disappointed.

They have labels in the USA, for chicken, no antibodies, which, it's illegal to sell chicken in the USA, with antibodies still in the birds system to begin with.  So just silly marketing.  Now offering Piranha beef, with no sugar added ... get the drift.  Silly info, nobody needs or worse, not even applicable to the product.

Nothing boggles me more than people that "get hurt" by offensive remarks on line and continue to be "hurt". It's the easiest thing in the world to ignore by either not reading such posts or by not going on sites with such. On AN we have the ignore function which does that job.

Seems like some people are incapable of not reading garbage about themselves.

Great comment, I totally agree.

Sadly it's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil.

The Mods must get fed up with these squeaky wheels always complaining, reporting comments because they are offended.

My motto......

You find it offensive, I find it funny, this is why I'm a happier person than you.

Some posters discuss the topic - cool

Some posters makes jokes -cool

Some posters just whinge about other posters - worst kind of poster. Adds no value. You see these kind on every topic.

All i need to know is,you treat me nice and i will be nice to you.

No matter what you look like or wear, just be a nice person and carry on.

What some one else identifies as makes no difference to me at all.
