The tourist police in Pattaya conducted a meeting with 40 foreign volunteers. The aim was to clarify their roles in ensuring safety and providing support to local law enforcement on Pattaya's Walking Street.

 

On August 7, 2024, this meeting was organized at the Pattaya Tourist Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong Ensan, the Head of Tourist Police Division 4. It was a part of the Pattaya Police's Strong Community Tourism (S.C.T.) initiative on Pattaya Walking Street.

 

The goal was to confirm whether the volunteers were clear about their collaboration with the local police and their responsibilities. Special instructions from the Prime Minister addressing visitor safety on Walking Street were also discussed.

 

According to Pol. Lt. Col. Piyapong, volunteers from 16 countries were part of the training. These included Pakistan, Turkey, Australia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, Iran, India, China (inclusive of Taiwan), Congo, Japan, Laos, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, and France, making a total of 40 attendees, reported The Pattaya News.

what is there legal status? 

I despise these Walty Mitty idiots.  Why don't they just retire to the bars and leave the real Police to do their job. I've even seen them at road blocks, getting involved in things that don't concern them. dressed in their ridiculous, pretend uniforms.  Needless to say, I ignore them and deal with the actual cops.

Overall, I would suggest that these old guys spend the time and money to get their private pilot's license. And then, see about joining some civil air patrol organization in Thailand.

It's always a good laugh when you see them riding their Honda wave, Yamaha Nouvo or Mio, going to their workplace, dressed up in their phoney uniform, with fake police stickers (bought from the market) plastered all over their scooter 😂😂😂😂

Not much really, supposed to call in the real police for anything important. Certainly no power to detain, unarmed and generally there because the local police are lazy and lack language skills.

It irks me that I see most posters have NO idea what a foreign volunteer (FTPA ) does or can do.

Most foreign volunteer's can speak more than one language, many have been police officers in their home country. I know of one FTPA person that speaks English, Italian, German and French, another person who speaks English, Japanese and Chinese. Many ""real"" police officers do not speak more than 2 languages, Thai and English. There are visitors / tourest in Thailand that speak over 100 languages and variations.

 

All FTPA have police clearance from their home country, pass background checks and interviews BEFORE starting training.

 

I can tell stories of how FTPA volunteer's have kept MANY people out of being charged or out of jail because of the ability to communicate with that person and translate to the command police officer.

If you have a problem,  usually a FTPA can be found that speaks your native language.

 

As part of the training I was working the HQ desk when a taxi driver brought a confused scared lost older Albanian man to HQ. In about 5 minutes he was talking on the phone to a ""walty mitty idiot volunteer"" that could speak his language, was able to sort things out and contact his family to come get him.

 

Translation and compassion is a BIG part of FTPA service.

 

On the rare occasion, a FTPA volunteer will be involved in making a arrest - READ / RESEARCH the RTP regulations how this IS LEGAL. I made 1 arrest in 4 years, a violent drunk tourist.

I live here, in part, to keep away from people like you.  I didn't  come 6,000 miles to a new country to be greeted by interfering wannabees 'trying to help'.  I don't need your help. just to be very clear,  I resent you all.  Google Translate does the job if need be. You look and act ridiculous and no wonder you get the response you get from the vast majority of normal expats.   By the way, there is no citizens arrest in Thailand and you are a civilian. 

Read the RTP regulations to increase your NOT so vast knowledge of Royal Thai Police Regulation's.
