The Mayor of Pattaya, Mr. Poramase Ngampiches, has unveiled plans to deal with the chronic flooding problem in Pattaya city. The plan will focus on reducing the water that flows from higher regions into Pattaya, through a water redirection scheme to the Huai Yai water storage area. This project had been previously delayed by a high-speed rail project.

 

Mr. Poramase stated that regular floods during heavy rains around railway tracks in Pattaya and its surrounding areas have been making headlines in the media. Places such as Khao Noi, Khao Talo, and South Pattaya Road are the most affected. Efforts are being made by the city to resolve the flood issues in these areas.

 

Moreover, in other parts of the city where flooding used to be a big issue, major improvements have been secured. The mayor pointed out that places like Naklua, which is behind Wat Nong Yai, and the inner parts of Pattaya, no longer experience severe floods.

 

The increased flooding, as reported in media, is mostly due to water flowing from higher ground in neighboring regions entering Pattaya. This involves water from Khao Noi and Khao Talo, which flows down to the railway tracks. To tackle this, Pattaya city has installed drainage pipes along the railway road to take care of the water flow.

 

The first part of this project that directs water to Naklua Canal is complete. However, the second part, which is expected to divert water to the Huai Yai water storage area through drainage pipes, has been postponed due to issues with the high-speed rail project. The mayor expects the water diversion project to commence shortly, but did not give a specific timeline for completion.

 

The mayor also talked about two ongoing projects aimed at resolving the flooding problem in southern Pattaya. One project aims to channel water from South Pattaya Sukhumvit Road to the Huai Yai storage area through pipes installed via Soi Sukhumvit 54. Once finished, this will stop water from Khao Noi, Khao Talo, and the railway road from entering the city. The second project consists of building a water pumping station at Khao Talo to route water to the Huai Yai Canal. The city is currently choosing a contractor for this project. With the completion of these two projects, the mayor is confident that they will greatly reduce water flow from higher grounds into Pattaya, reported The Pattaya News.

But when the plans are ready the problems are solved because of the dry season.. and than we don't need to do anything more before the same occur next year

Try unblocking the drains first

 

I watched over the last few years the  widening of Sukhumvit road southwards from Jomtien...I particularly noticed that the drainage pipes were half full of crud,sand,rocks,road building detritus and common old garden rubbish thrown from passing cars or blown by the wind  as soon as they were laid  then the grading/leveling machines  pushed even more crud in....first big rains  2 lanes of flood water in both directions at certain locations.

The left hand lane flooding being quite deep,   there was also signs of the "popular belief" that water flows up hill !

Not American but why not just build the flow canals -

End of this song and dance solution is money money baby. Selection of contractor should be easy Uncle Vito should be happy.🤑

Sure it's fixable with portable pumps since every drain project fails
