Thai Teens Arrested for Bomb-Making Following Child's Tragic Death
Photo via Naewna Two Thai teenagers have been arrested for creating bombs that resulted in the death of a nine-year-old boy in Phichit province. The tragic incident occurred on March 23 when the child picked up an object on the road, unknowingly triggering a homemade bomb. The alarming event only gained widespread attention on April 2, leading to an intensified investigation. Prior to this fatal explosion, three other bombs had detonated in the area, and another unexploded device was later found and safely neutralised. The boy's mother, frustrated by the lack of progress in finding those responsible, sought justice, prompting increased public pressure on the local police. In response, law enforcement arrested two teen boys, aged 16 and 17, from the same community as the victim. During a search, authorities discovered 10 additional homemade bombs in their homes, located just 300 metres from the explosion site. The teenagers confessed to making the bombs using household materials, inspired by YouTube videos. They admitted to leaving the devices as part of a reckless experiment. Currently in detention at the Central Juvenile and Family Court, the teens await further legal action. The police have not decided whether to pursue additional arrests among the teens' peers, alleged to have been involved in the bomb-making. The Phichit Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office has pledged support and compensation for the victim's family. They are also providing mental health assistance to help the family cope with their devastating loss. This tragic incident underscores the need for vigilance and education around the dangers of homemade explosives, especially among younger individuals influenced by online content, reported The Thaiger. -- 2025-04-04 -
