I joined Thaivisa.com forums in 2014

Ten years later.. I'm curious...how many active members are there now compared to 10 years ago ?

I search Alexa.. But no historical numbers

Cheers

I'm not concerned with the quantity of members but the quality has really gone downhill. There's been an army of trolls who have invaded, particularly in the political arenas, and their sole purpose is to create a chaotic and unfriendly atmosphere.

10 years ago I could spend hours browsing through the topics. It was a great way to kill some time. We could chat on multiple subjects, exchange ideas, and have friendly disagreements. Now, I only log in occasionally and it's merely a fly-by. It's become toxic. Add to that the enormous amount of invasive popup ads that make it difficult to read topics cuz the page keeps changing size and moving the focus of where you are looking, and it's made it a nuisance instead of a positive experience.

I think I've probably changed my account at least 3 times in the past 10 years

Here for more than 21 years (OMG!). The worst aspect in the decline of this forum are (IMHO), the trolls, the forum shills and the excruciating AI news posts... (all which have flourished in recently).

Only 18 for me. The quality has declined, the quantity has declined = an increase in the crap to posts ratio

Much improved since I first joined.

And a big shout to the mods who tirelessly volunteer their time for us all.

Well we dare not Criticize them 🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐

It is now a cagematch between retirees and Progressives. We have seen the rise of the Political Commissars who try to exert control and self censorship by screaming racism or whatever at any poster who doesn't share their psychopathology. I am not a member of their cult and am very resistent to having cult beliefs forced upon me.

There are still some high level people posting here but a lot are gone and I think they left Thailand , not just this forum.

I started posting again once the moderation became reasonable with the change in ownership.

With so many ways of staying here LT other than ON Imm being closed off there are a lot less visa related posts.

I've been on here around 10 years too. I notice the topics have reduced in quality, but at the same time I don't start any riveting topics either. There's not that many expats in my local area on here that could help with local questions and the more general questions have usually already been asked and answered.

As the quality of Google has improved, the need for Forums has declined.  We see this here in spades.

Sure, one has to be Brave to face all these popups.

Me.

There was a recent thread on auto window tinting.  For grins, I used the new and improved search function and came up with about a dozen similar threads since about 2000 and something.  Just about every one of them, including the new thread, ended up devolving into a pissing contest.  Mostly between those who suggest that tinting may reduce visibility at night, and those who claim that dark tinting looks cool, they see just fine and the old farts should just crawl off somewhere and die.

I did get the sense that the more recent threads went off the rails in fewer posts, but that's not a scientific analysis.

And I do appreciate that the search function seems to work  a lot better...

I have pretty much given up using the site on a smartphone.  It's almost impossible to see around the ads, and even more frustrating to type when the ads creep up and block the entry area.

Rather full of yourself, aren't you!?   Some, not I, might say that it has gone downhill since you joined!

Kidding...!

You just have to put a "brave" face on and all your frustrations will disappear.

Yes.

probably the greatest of all time if I am to be honest.

This clownshow of a forum is about as useful as teats on a bull, but it is mildly entertaining for 5 mins with my morning coffee or evening snack....

Since the takeover six months ago, the forum has undergone significant changes. While it’s not the forum it once was—and that's a good thing—changes in management, improvements in technical resources and a new team of moderators have made it better. Yet, many of you complain about the lack of topics while contributing very little yourself. You expect to be spoon-fed, taking everything the forum offers while giving only negative toxic comments in return.

Trolls exist in any online community. Until they are identified, we give them the benefit of the doubt, just like anyone else. Once identified, they are removed. We can’t monitor every post around the clock, so we rely on you to report any issues. Be part of the solution, not the problem.

The derogatory comments aimed at our news, sponsors and advertorials are unjustified and disrespectful. Even worse are the inflammatory remarks on articles related to charitable foundations. If you have nothing positive to say, move on. There are plenty of other topics and forums for you to vent on.

This forum is free for you to use. Many of you have enjoyed it for years and repaid us with accusations and attacks. We're drawing the line here.

We are committed to a respectful and supportive environment. Constructive feedback and healthy discussions are welcome, but persistent negativity and toxic behaviour will not be tolerated. If you’re so dissatisfied, perhaps it’s time to find another platform. The internet is a big place.

The forum is evolving in a very positive way and we won’t let a few bad apples, or sour old men, spoil the hard work that goes into it.
