Thailand raises retirement age to 65 for all sectors.

That means More money for the Government  that they don't have to pay out  even if it's only Thb 600 per month .

But it ads up in the long term X amount of  people times  5 Yrs .

Thailand’s Labour Ministry is set to extend the retirement age for both private and government sectors to 65 years, aligning it with countries like Singapore and Switzerland, announced Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn.

Does that mean half of the government will be out of work, or will an exemption be made for the trough gobblers.

Phiphat revealed that the ministry is considering converting the Social Security Fund’s largest expense—currently variable medical costs, estimated at 60 billion baht annually, into a fixed cost. By transferring this financial responsibility to an insurance company, the Social Security Office (SSO) could manage floating costs more effectively and improve fund management

How about excluding civil servants extended families from the scheme.

The  government is surely in problem, want to adjust the pension age to 65 for the measly pay of 600 baht/month. Just confess, the country is in deep trouble, and comparing the country with Singapore and Switzerland is a joke.

Yes, and?  600baht/ month doesn't help.

The social security funds pays for health care too.

600 BAHT is old age payment, not retirement payment which comes from social security.

I know many Thai villagers that lived into their 80s

Yes, you can see some villagers into their 80s, but have you seen the younger people living in the towns, suffering from diabetes? It’s easy to see, they will never reach the age of 65.

Then this government plan will work perfectly.

Of course, it makes perfect sense, since Thailand has so many similarities to Singapore and Switzerland, indeed they're almost indistinguishable!

</sarcasm>

They all are written very similar,  containing the letters a, i, n.

They all speak unintelligible languages.

They all ate peace-loving countries, who have never bombed another country.

Really indistinguishable.

Relevant as the current life expectancy in Thailand is 77.92

If born this year.   By the time those born this year reach 60/65, the goal post may be moved again, to what ... 80/85 :cheesy:

The Thai government should be ashamed of itself how can people be expected to love on 125 baht a week. Why can't they raise there allowance any more and think of the people instead themselves for a change.

OK, so these figures will be way out, but lets assume there are about 40 million thais currently working, and due to pre 65 age death, 800,000 reach retirement each year. If the age of retirement is increased to 65, 4 million jobs will need to be added to the thai economy ABOVE the current employment merely to stand still over the next 5 years !!!

So unless idiot governments al over the world come up with employment plans ahead of increasing the retirement age, then you could well be building up youth unemployment

I think the maximum contribution is like 9,000 baht per year, so its not like the contributions are all that high either.

A retiree is entitled to OAA (600 to1000b per month) and SSA  (20% of monthly wage last earned.)

I suspect another large part of this is the continued falling birthrate… kind of like South Korea.. they’re going to be in a situation where they are far more people drawing FROM the system than there are paying INTO the system.. so they’ve got to do something such as pushing out the retirement age (ie delaying when you can draw from the fund), up the tax rate on those working and paying into it, and/or cutting back on the benefits drawn from it..
