Hilarious! As if it's up to Thailand to state when winter starts. For the record, the first day of winter is the solstice on December 21st.

We are in Thailand, not UK/USA. In Australia, Summer begins on 21st Dec.

You really dont understand!!  Thailand is in the tropics and has sub tropical weather. Funny guy you are..

Here in Chonburi there was only the dry season and the wet season. When I first come here the dry season usually followed Loy Krathong and lasted till April/May time, sometimes even into June. In recent years however we have started to see rain in Jan/Feb.

We don't have mains water, just use stored rainwater, so the change is quite beneficial.

Most countries have their seasons sorted out date wise 

Only here in Thailand do they announce the date then cancel because of  the weather change 🙄

And I have never heard of government changing the dates of seasons anywhere, it's usually explained as unusual weather for the season

I am from Sydney and to me that is cold.

I've always liked the four seasons. Sadly they haven't had a hit record in years.

Let's just conclude that it makes perfect sense to officially announce winter season starting based on whatever calendar, without looking out the window nor at the weather forecasts that say water is expected to come pouring down and temperatures remain high - and take back couple of days later after noticing no winter in sight. In the meantime ngos and social authorities happy having been woken up from their summer sleep, running to distribute winter gear while sweating in sun and wet from rain.

This really cracks me up and shows how absurd the Thai  mindset is! How the hell can anyone predict the starting date of any season? And what is the point of announcing 

it anyway? 🤣 This is nature! Seasons come and go at around the same times. They're starting an ending times are approximate and overlap. Like so much else in Thailand; totally illogical and absurd...😂. If you didn't laugh you'd have to cry....😂😭😂.

I think in the UK, and probably other countries where the weather is very changeable the seasons are based on dates rather than weather. I can imagine the Met Office declaring  summer somewhen in May and then cancelling it the next week as it's got cold and wet again.

 

I always thought that Thailand was tropical but I read somewhere its sub tropical in the north. Doesn't stop it being too hot, then too wet and then too hot again.

 

My wife calls it the cool season and I've long assumed she was right, for safety reasons.

Yet, Thailand is not the only country in SE (and South) Asia, where locals regularly refer to the 'cooler' season as "winter", and to the Hot Season as "summer". Asked for the actual number, or name of seasons, at times, one gets a shrug... Ignorance?

I thought the Equinoxes decided the start of the seasons, not Thailand, but I do realise how much some of the more "patriotic" ones  think that they are the centre of the Universe!
