Following URL talks to his background, including overseas military experience. Reading the entire  review sounds like an ideal, for trump , appointee. No experience of the complexities of running a very large organisation, but loves trump. Bet the command structure at DOD will be very unhappy.

Hegseth did see combat but his bronze star was not awarded with the V device for valor in combat.

Seems though some may criticize it, the strategy is take from the house and senate where they can be replaced. Some say they are cutting it too thin in the house.

I'd also like to see a public comment board, like Vivek and Elon are describing for gvt. waste, devoted to embassies and consuls, where we expats could get a say on the (lack of) services we get. Would be nice to see these people stop sitting under palm trees and taking lunch for four hours need to give us in person service for passports and everything else.
