It is annoying.

If you click on the blue dot to the left of the topic title it will take you to the last unread post. If you have not previously viewed that topic it will take you to the first post.

So go to your account settings and change it to how you want it.

Which I have done, its doesnt work.

 

It keeps going back to last post

I had changed it to last unread post, I just clicked on a topic I have been reading and it took me to the first post.

So it was going to last post now its going to first post then select the third available option. Last read post.

That is what it is set on, I have not changed it.

 

Just to test I went back to a topic I was just reading, it has taken me back to the beginning.

There is nothing wrong with the system, it must be something you are doing or not doing within your account settings.

Could it simply be down to where you are clicking on the post in the 'list of posts' ?>>>

 

If you click here (green ellipse) you will be taken to the beginning of the thread.

If you click here (red ellipse) you will be taken to the end of the thread.

The last unread post is always the last post. The setting you have chosen is working correctly.

On my system it only works on Unread Topics going to all topics it takes me to the last topic.

 

it's bad design that the default takes you to the last post, it's illogical and annoying

I know what I am doing, I am giving you honest feedback. It seems others are experiencing it too. Just read the threads.

 

 

Answer me this this, the settings I have chosen are below, why is it when I click on this topic which I was reading yesterday does it take me to the beginning?

There is something wrong, even if it's designed to be like that.  If you click on a topic from the "Topics" box in the sidebar it takes you to the first post, even if the thread is years old.

 

If you click on a topic in the "Latest Topics" or "Popular in the Pub" box it takes you to the last post even if there are several new posts since you last read it.

 

If you click on a topic in the "Popular Now", "Top News Stories", "General Topics" etc it takes you to new, unread posts.  All of these ignore the setting mentioned which only affects threads in activity streams and when directly accessing topics from the individual sub-forums (can still use the blue dot if on a laptop or desktop).

 

It appears from the multiple complaints that many users use these boxes to access content so personalisation should affect these too if you want to improve the user experience.

 After playing around with it, i think you have hit the nail on the head, over or under thought, too complicated, no baseline/common rules or a combination of the lot!!!

 

Its constructive feedback, not a moan for moaning sake.

 

I do like the new look though
