My intention is not to sound unsympathetic to someone who's been robbed, but the relatively simple moral to this story is never drink to the point where you lose control, and never drink to the point

  • That's about a regular wedding ring, not exactly unusual.

  • "A fool (or dead drunk) and his money are soon parted" I hate to blame the victim, but jeez.. getting blotto with 40k on ya... late at night. Hasn't got the brains he should have been born w

Why ??  40,000 baht is hardly the high-end of luxury... in most cases it a phone, a normal watch etc...

Doofus. And I would bet a six-pack of Singhai this goofball will blame the Thai people for his serious lapse in self-preservation. He coulda been in downtown Miami, and this same thing woulda happened.....except The Miami thugs would not have allowed him to be a witness.

I was 19 years old and it was 2AM , the bars were closing (in Udon Thani). I could smell the danger, and there wasn't a soul around. Finally, a lone samlar came by....and it was a long ride back to the base....but worth it. And I gave him a nice tip as well. After all...he had to peddle back as well

a motorcycle taxi driver who witnessed the incident, stated that the tourist, who appeared very drunk, had stopped to rest while waiting for transportation back to his accommodation. The alleged perpetrator, who is known to frequent the area, noticed the tourist’s condition and approached him under the guise of offering help.

Looks like that European man was well picked up by the sensor of that career criminal as The Easy Prey.

Someone really needs to claim that this was an insurance scam .

Like they would do if the victim was Indian

But it wasn't a ladyboy swiping a gold chain !!!... :whistling:

You do have any idea what a 1 baht ring looks like?  Hardly qualifies as Mr T, or Liberace.

Why does a man go to Pattaya wearing a goldring worth 40 000 thb ?

Maybe to claim the insurance.

The victim, identified as Mr. Lars Reikwike, reported that a man, described as appearing effeminate, approached him and stole 2,000 baht in cash and a gold ring valued at over 40,000 baht before fleeing

"Sunset Man" wearing his <deleted> expensive wedding ring to Pattaya to get <deleted> faced and blaming the loss on LGBTQ?

Classic. 😄

I bet Sunset Man has never seen a sunset like this in Pattaya or Sweden.

One baht gold is worth just over 40,000.  So one ring can easily be worth that much. I have 3 and a 5 baht chain. But than thai gold was only at 19,000 per baht gold back than. I do wear a ring daily.  The rest comes out only for special occasions.  And I never get $hit faced. Gold is a good investment.

Man, people who like to drink on holiday mostly do so at various bars, pubs etc. Especially if one flies half way round the world, what is the point of only drinking at your hotel? People should use common sense and leave their expensive jewelry in their home countries (or inside the hotel safe, at least when going out drinking). And, of course, it is best not to have a lot of cash when on a boozy night out. In this case, the guy apparently actually didn't have a lot of cash with him. The not-so-cheap ring's gone though.
