Cash will always be choice of payment.

  • And a good choice!   All these Thais with their little shops using the QR etc, which is all OK until big brother decides to check their actual income, against declared income, down the line.

I noticed at Lotus they show their phones and walk out. Some App, I guess.

I don't see any benefit 'cause they are so slow. Some don't have right stuff on the screen etc

My App is THB = fast. When use CASH you don't shop blind. You remember how hard it was to get.

Why do you prefer WISE card?

If you live here, as it seems the OP does, why would you cling to the past?  What would be the benefit?

Do you not have a Thai bank account? So easy to use the local banking apps for most payments here.  As far as I know Makro accepts only local barcode scans as payment.

Probably paying using PromptPay QR codes.

I have a Thai bank account with a banking app on my phone, and I use it to pay for at least 80 percent of all my payments anywhere, from Big C to the local market. Only our 7-11s do not accept it, but they do accept True Money wallet payments.

I've been using QR code scanning for years

Paying by QR is slow though, takes a little too long to start scanning

Cash will always be choice of payment.

Yes,

They will ask "Scan"?
Say "No, ..Visa"
The scan is for the banking app using QR code.

He is worried about taxes.

But the worry is exaggerated.

Then all these QR code payments etc that were so easy, won't have been the best decision any more.

I agree,

I think far too many excessively worrying and getting their knickers in a twist about scenarios that probably won't pan out.

In Australia, I simply place my Visa debit card on the device, and my account is debited. The process takes seconds.

In Thailand, people at checkouts faff about on their phones for minutes. One would think they would learn to use the <deleted> things after the first few times, but no.

I should start a logbook and stopwatch the minutes I spent waiting for the dimwits to get their payment organized.

Sometimes giving up and look for another checkout

IMHO the blame lies more with the banking "geniuses" who were responsible for designing lousy apps which are inherently cumbersome, awkward and slow to use, rather than with those who are striving to make the best of an extremely bad job in using them. About a year ago I had a brief flirtation with the dreaded Bangkok Bank app, but dumped it after it started playing me up big time whenever I attempted to use it for making scanned QR payments at Big C, Makro, etc.

As a result, cash is also king for me nowadays here in LOS. A great pity that Contactless has not caught on here in the way it has back in my home country (UK) as well as in Australia, presumably. However, I understand that the maximum amount for Contactless payments without the need for passcodes, etc is a ridiculously low 1,500 THB in LOS, when compared to around 4,300 THB (£100) in the UK, so that may have something to do with it.

I use QR regularly. The secret is to prepare your app whilst your shopping is being scanned through. Once set up, the app allows you 5 mins to capture the QR code. Quick and simple. (what's the rush anyway?)

An unfounded whinge IMO. I use K bank app regularly without any problems, It's very simple and user friendly. And I noticed that Krungsri have just upgraded their app but I haven't used that one as yet.

Yes same as i do in 7 Eleven but still often some delay plus hands are sometimes full so not easy, obviously passing over 1000 note is easier for sure

How many people do you see with the app prepared?

Maybe it has not occurred to you the people waiting in a queue behind whatever retard is fumbling with their phone, have got better things to do with their time.

Probably about as many as I see people fumbling around with their purse or wallet searching for the 'right money' then rummaging in their bag for small change. And then having failed in their endeavor, they present large notes and have to wait for the change!

And by the way, I decided to switch to using QR when I noticed just how quickly many people were at paying when using their phones. To me it was a no brainer.

It's very easy to put the boot on the other foot.

I can't say I have noticed people fumbling with cash, it always seems to be some idiot with a phone.

What do you do when your service provider decides to throw a wobbly when you are shopping?
