Who Is Controlling the Budget Bill? Trump, Johnson, or Musk?

Featured Replies

Democrats seem to have disappeared. So who is determining things?

Quote

But some Republicans are well aware that the public hates government shutdowns and usually blames their party. Why walk into that trap?

Well, because Trump said to. Several hours after Musk began his barrage on X, Trump and his vice presidential pick, JD Vance, weighed in to second Musk’s demand, saying Republicans who control the House should scrap the existing bill and come up with a better one. So House Speaker Mike Johnson shelved the bill. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/president-musk-215238177.html

I wonder how Donnie likes being upstaged by Elon and how long he will put up with it. Or perhaps it's the other way around and President Musk will tire of Donnie.

Good question! 😆

A day before a potential government shutdown, the House resoundingly rejected President-elect Donald Trump's new plan Thursday to fund operations and suspend the debt ceiling, as Democrats and dozens of Republicans refused to accommodate his sudden demands.

For all appearances it appears that Musk is calling the shots. A bipartisan bill was agreed to and presented, Speaker Johnson was ready to close the deal, then President Musk put out over 100 tweets screaming about killing the bill, which of course all the little sycophant muppets (INCLUDING the incoming president!) whimpered, "Yessir!"

Welcome to the next four years.

Musk has the right as a citizen, of course, to make his views known and influence as many people as possible to agree with him. But I agree that this latest action is clumsy and oafish. Right off the bat, before Trump even takes office, Musk has minimized him. This is pure ego at work. If he really wanted to target government spending and inefficiency, he would build up a case for each of his criticisms. This could end up backfiring and removing him as an influencer altogether. And to blow all your influence on a 3 month budget extension seem ill thought out to say the least.

It is in a way darkly ironic.

Trump won the election, the MAGA movement ( here and elsewhere) crowed and boasted of a decisive win, the comeback of a political titan, the people having spoken and must now be heard, a great new era dawning, and in the cold light of the new morning, instead of a Trumpian blaze of glory, we discover it is Elon Musk actually calling the shots!

And as expected, Musk did so by lying outrageously! 😀

I don't know why anyone would expect anything short of chaos in a second Trump presidency. COVID messed up his first presidency, , Musk and the other contributing billionaires will put his second in disarray. Welcome to government by oligarchy.

The idiots are calling for the end of the FDIC. As I recall reading, this scenario was what brought about The Great Depression circa 1929.

You're not kidding. But to be fair they were never really present, as this latest in a long long long line of "conspiracy theories" is proven factually true ie Biden was demented and incapable years ago and the democrats covered it up.

The Democrats are just sitting back. Biden, too. It's like nobody is in charge. And the Republicans have hived off and Trump is already threatening to primary congressmen who don't vote on the latest budget extension. It all looks nutso.

By the people for the people and all that.

Obviously the smart and wise American people voted for smart and wise people to handle all that.

The orange idiot will  get rid of Musk soon,  no way he can compete with someone a lot smarter then himself.

But will the richest man on earth accept Trump's decision and walk away and keep quiet? Probably not...

I guess next Trump will try to shut down X instead of TikTok.

Some called it organized chaos.  Problem is no one knows who the real organizer is.

As they should have since he is not the President yet. I agree he can have some discussions concerning his ideas and views for the future but its not his place to dictate anything yet, nor should Congress be taking direction from him yet.  I think its not necessarily a bad thing the AI was used to decode and condense the bill to an understandable format but it's not Musk's place to be dictating either as he's not an elected official only an advisor to trump at this point. The accuracy of some of what Musk posted is in question as well which also adds to the confusion. The world is watching this debacle and will be picking sides on who to try to use as a conduit for their agendas so it is a very awkward situation trump has created here.
