Adolescence

Crime--Netflix 4 episodes  IMDB 8.4   This is worth looking at-- all out    Created by Stephen Graham --- Lead actor Stephen Graham

When a 13-year-old is accused of the murder of a classmate, his family, therapist and the detective in charge are all left asking what really happened.

It's a hard watch, but totally get why it's #1 on Netflix right now

Just watched first one so far, amazing how they shot the whole thing in one take, or was there some AI trickery in it?

Overrated in my opinion, i was left wondering what the whole fuss was about. A lot of the scenes seemed dragged out unnecessarily. Whole thing could have been edited down to two episodes max.

Yes, it is superb.  One of the best things ever shown, certainly on Netflix.  Seriously thought-provoking, especially for parents of adolescents.

Sorry, I thought it was poop. Armed swat team home invasion to arrest 13yo kid is nonsense. And why didn't they arrest the black girl for gbh after her unprovoked attack?

Didn't she do in the school exactly what he did in the car park?

I agree with the above 2 comments.

A SWAT team to arrest a 13 year old, when they had video evidence of it being a knife crime.

The protracted 1st episode, showing exactly what happens.

Unnecessarily long.

Stephen Graham was, of course, excellent, as was Ashley Walters.

You understand she was stabbed to death---- not a playground fight'

Yes I thought the last episode was very flat

I thought the last episode was one of the most astonishing pieces of TV I've ever seen.  Technically amazing and very emotional.  I was in bits at the end.  Historic television.  👏

Anora was amazing. This was an astonishing film, with performances that were written by adults for adults, which is so refreshing in today's world of American film. They actually showed nudity, they actually showed people having sex, they showed that not everybody in America is prudish, which was so wonderful and it's something that Hollywood just can't wrap its tiny little mind around. You knew this had to be a an independent production, you knew that this wasn't financed by a big studio, because the content was simply too mature, and too adult like.

The interaction between Mikey Madison and Paul Weissman was precious. He played this gentle, kind-hearted thug, stuck working for a junk family, who did a great job of displaying the moral bankruptcy of the average billionaire, much less Russian oligarch.

Mikey Madison was pitch perfect and absolutely deserved the Academy Award. It was a brilliant performance, the entire film had this pitch and intensity that just never let up and it was both tragic and beyond belief for many many sustained moments. Sean Baker likewise deserved his Oscar as the direction was flawless. This was an utterly enjoyable film to watch.

Baker’s subtly brilliant film knows how difficult it is to pull yourself up by your bootstraps, especially when those bootstraps are constantly being cut off by the people at the top.

Three shows I did not enjoy were the Madness, 1923 and Zero Days. They were silly. In the Madness the main character wears the dazed and confused look the entire series. And rarely ever dresses in disguise.

In Zero days something is happening to the Deniro character, but what? Too many questions, and not enough answers.

Anotjer dud is 1923. Sheridan pours on the tragedy to such an extent the desire to watch just dissapates. Like a melodrama. The tragedy is not in the story, but in the wasted opportunity.

Dope Theives...

First episode was good.

# 2 not so good.

# 3 I gave up.

Discussing what she cooked him for breakfast, interminable minutes of riding around in a van, buying paint and then a brief altercation with a local hoon. I wish I was that easily entertained.😴

Just have seen The Rumble in the Jungle on YouTube (1:05).

Boxing Fight in Zaire between Foreman and Ali. Great!

George Foreman RIP.

yeah .. surprised it’s a Ridley Scott production. I will continue until episode 8 in the hope it will improve.

‘Gemstones was definitely worth a watch, my wife couldn’t believe it was “the guy from Lotus” with his prosthetic penis.

Let me know it improves, please.

Haven't watched Gemstones yet..🙂

So, here’s one to avoid like the plague !!

LOL: Last one Laughing U.K. - Season 1

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt35050741/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

You might like the odd episode of 8 out of 10 cats ( countdown ) or Would I lie to you or any other U.K. show full of the same old tired comedians.

These shows have some high points though, David Mitchell’s rants or Bob Mortimer’s absurd stories, in reality since the demise of Sean Lock they are just a bunch of second rate performers who don’t have proper jobs.

But this latest offering of “ U.K.’s top 10 comedians “ is just an insult to our comedic intelligences.

I mean who are Roisin Conaty, Rob Beckett, Joe Wilkinson, Judy Love, Joe Lovett and a bunch of nameless others hoping to entertain with a game show where the idea is not to make the others laugh ??

If that wasn’t bad enough guess who is in charge ? ….. yup Jimmy Carr !!

IMDB gives it an 8.1 rating but expect that to drop like a stone when the reviewers actually watch this dross .

Yes, I did take one for the team and watch the first 10 minutes but only so you don’t have to, you are welcome !!

Bradley Walsh: Egypt’s Cosmic Code

BW, in case you didn’t know is a U.K. actor more commonly known in light entertainment and soap opera but now a popular game show host.

Apparently having a passion for the wonders of Egypt, the pyramids in particular, he sets off to try and discover the mysteries surrounding these ancient monuments.

An interesting show with the usual facts and figures about the timeline of the ancient world including the myths commonly associated with who created these amazing buildings.

Spoilt only by Bradley trying to turn it into a stand up routine and at times being extremely silly.

Michael Palin he ain’t !!

This will appeal more to bored British housewives than serious Egyptologist students.

Its a shame, i would say if you like BW’s humour then give it a go, if not give it a wide berth !!

White Lotus finally ramps up in episode 5.  The main complaint about the White Lotus in general is that it tends to be really slow in the beginning episodes as all the pieces are being put into place and the backstories of the ensemble cast are slowly revealed. But the first two seasons really packed a punch at the end and I'm expecting the same thing from this season.

As an aside, even those who don't like it might want to take a look at episode 5. Sam Rockwell makes a special guest appearance and goes into a long monologue about his fixation with Asian women that leads to some pretty sordid actiivties with the ladyboys, which just goes to show what Thailand can do to you. Walter Goggins expression as he listens is priceless.

I decided to watch a couple of oldies and the night before last it was, "2001 A Space Odyssey" and although I have seen it before (decades ago) I was amazed by it, especially by Stanley Kubrick's vision of the future as regards space travel, because it was brilliant/amazing and something I'd never really realised before.

I understood what the beginning was all about, but was puzzled about the ending, so I searched a bit and this is the best description I could find......

"Kubrick responded to Yao’s question regarding the final scene in 2001, where the protagonist Dave Bowman lies in bed, saying, “I tried to avoid doing this ever since the picture came out because when you just say the ideas they sound foolish, whereas if they’re dramatized one feels it.”

The director continues, adding, “The idea was supposed to be that he is taken in by god-like entities, creatures of pure energy and intelligence with no shape or form and they put him in what I suppose you could describe as a human zoo to study him, and his whole life passes from that point on in that room and he has no sense of time, it just seems to happen as it does in the film.”

To elaborate on this concept, Kubrick notes that the room was a very deliberately inaccurate replica of French architecture to show that the entities had some idea of what Dave would find comforting and familiar like humans do to animals in zoos.

Concluding his comments about the film’s ending, Kubrick says, "When they get finished with him, as happens in so many myths of all cultures in the world, he is transformed into some know of superbeing and sent back to Earth. It is the pattern of a great deal of mythology, that was what we were trying to suggest.”

My next oldie was a movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Laurence Olivier, in, "Marathon Man" and I think I've seen it before but I couldn't remember anything about it so on it went! And I enjoyed it although it took a little time to come together!

PS. After being thrown off the back of a motorcycle taxi and suffering severe concussion, I have to say that my memory is nowhere near as good as it used to be, and is probably why I can watch these old movies and not remember anything about them!!!!!

It's a bloody disgrace, 3x the stabbings are committed by blacks in the UK than whites taking into account their numbers. What will Netflix make next, one about the white grooming gangs with nice muslim Policemen and a black woman as the chief constable? Here we have the understanding black copper and his responsible son, but they did add a stroppy black girl for 'balance' White working class boys are NOT the problem when it comes to random stabbings in the UK.

Are you even watching it?

I think it is the weakest of the three and took too much to warm up but still very entertaining with some gem moments such as -- you're moving to Taiwan?!?
