Supreme Court Petitioned to Return Thaksin to Jail Amid Allegations

In any other country around the world he would be in prison where he belongs but not Thailand,,,Noprison time and now he's back running the country as his daughter is just another puppet on his string what a joke it's high time he was locked away so he can't do another runner

And in most other countries in the world, the generals would have been executed for treason against the legally elected government.

In Thailand not 1 general has ever been punished, and they steal the whole country, including the police and the justice system. and after the last coup by Prayuth the democrat party supported them.

Obviously, it's more than unlikely that the criminal will every go to jail again. If he should go to jail, I am sure he will find a doctor who will testify that he is a very sick man...   Th

I'm hoping there is really a Heaven and a Hell, because I am pretty confident where this bastard will be spending his time.

And was the general (still alive) who overthrew the Thaksin government in a military coup in 2006 ever prosecuted?

No !!Why?? Prayut and his mob gave themselves Immunity against  Prosecution,  can not be touched

We already know the answer...

I think the answer is going to be jail or house arrest.

The elites made this deal with the understanding that his family would not be in charge.

They also made the deal on the belief that he would stay out of the limelight and publicly keep his mouth shut.

This has not happened and worse than that his daughter is making a laughing stock of the Thai country.

We all knew there was a limit to what the elites would accept.

Now that the BJT senate is set they can bring in the PP.

All the while not too secretly manipulating, controlling and plotting his return when enough was spent and put into secret accounts to clear the way, with his sycophant family & pions and ass kissers?

Justleave  the poor guy alone... He's good for the country

It's the same as always... Considering imprisoning him again is intended to suggest that the courts work independently, democratically, critically and make no distinction between rich and poor. After that, everything stays as it is! "... But of course we have examined everything carefully and critically."... Pure eyewash!... It's slowly becoming boring!

"It's slowly becoming boring!"

"Slowly"? It's been boring for months now!

As many post have already said/implied, the man is never going back to jail, and a pound to a penny, if his daughter returns, she won't either - he will make sure of that by getting the Gov't to pass/find some hitherto unknown law that decreases the Statute of Limitations for those of a certain financial standing!!! Or some similar ploy!

Thailand needs Thaksin, and family, like it needs a hole in the head. The problem is he now appears to have bought his way into support from a higher level than previously which makes it less likely he will be gone any time soon. It can only be hoped that there is not a repeat of his so-called war on drugs during which, last time round, so many innocent people were shot dead by police.

They can't put him prison. He

is innocent

has grandkids to take care of

is sick

has been pardoned

is an old man

is rich

Not fake citizenship. It's genuinely/legally acquired through investments in these countries. He basically bought them.

Why? He was voted in by the people and the "but he was currupt", well not even half as bad as those that stole the country at the end of a gun. I remember my life as an expat under Mr T. and it was good. I also remember the change in atmosphere towards expats under the Jack boot of the generals. Mr T. = High GDP, far higher English competence. The country has regressed and not progressed. It is so sad! Oh as a side note: My Triton 4x4 520,000baht/£11,000 then (over £30k in the uk) now take your pick any vehicle in Thailand  is more expensive in Thailand than it is shipped and sold in the UK.

How about jailing every general that is still living that has taken part in illegal military coups first.

Wouldn't that be a great plan?

Just another politician trying to make a name for himself, nothing will come of this Thaksin has a pardon and won't be wearing a new neckbrace in the near future.

Indeed. The arrangements for his "imprisonment"/jail time, along with the arrangement of his reduced sentence and subsequent pardon would have been sanctioned at the very highest level, as I should imagine, is the clearance for his quasi political activities!

Not likely, this whole deal was arranged under the agreement with the former military influenced regime - a deal that was put into place to keep influence over the current government.... too many secrets that may be unravelled if the deal is unravelled will leave powerful people potentially exposed.

You are obviously blinded by hatred. Reference the accusations of shoot first with drug gangs, I'm sorry but your point is? However, in your clouded view it must be alright to give the order to shoot innocent protesters within a temple? Then hound and persecute a very brave nurse helped thise shot and who witnessed it? I go by life experience and your analogy of things get more expensive! Wow that's a bizzare reason when vehicles were cheaper in Thailand than in the uk by 200% but now they are upto 30% more expensive in Thailand!! The corruption went from a 20% markup to well over 30% to 40% under the Jack boot!!!! You don't seem to have any idea?

Look at Japan, look at South Korea and Thailand should be as prosperous but hay ho a few families found their way onto forbs

It was under Thaksin that the nationalism and xenophobia against foreigners became apparent. Prior to his government in 2001, we were mostly left alone.

Paying off the IMF loan was one such example, and his other comments about UN not being his father etc.

Also, many of the visa restrictions including limits on PR and citizenship happened under his watch.

Who to replace them all with? More corrupt, selfish criminals?

All the same, top to bottom here.

They get exactly the government they deserve.

The petition raises significant questions about the integrity and consistency of the legal system

Since the legal system has never possessed either of these qualities , a fact every Thai knows ,  it seems strange that only now somebody is questioning it.
