Elon Musk Demands Federal Workers Justify Their Jobs or Face Dismissal

How much per hour was Elon getting paid for that?

Can you see where we may reasonably expect hourly and salaried employees to actually put out and elucidate a product or a service in return for paying them?

And if they're in a paper pushing job (not uncommon in gub'ment), that one person approving 1500 widgets last week may be a keeper and another who approved 12 identical widgets in that same timeframe may not.

How about an investigation into why Musk gets €8 million dollars a day in taxpayer’s money? Or do you not see any conflicts of interest there?

Great news. The waste of employing far too many government drones has hopefully had it's day in the US. I wish he'd come here and lay waste to the bureaucracy in this country.   As for

You're missing my point. Of course all jobs should be justified but it's up to the employer to justify, not the employee. That has always been the case.

It's management who justify hiring, set targets and conduct appraisals.  If an employee doesn't meet reasonable targets then it's management who determine further action.

As for Elon getting paid, I'm sure he will be paid handsomely but he hardly needs the cash. Probably paid in Egocoin.

There's a reason why his popularity is slipping in the polls and he is losing support amongst his own voters.

To the extent that his popularity may (or may not) be slipping, I'd put it down to MSM demonization.  Probably because the MSM has been getting so much dosh from the very programs that DOGE is ferreting out.  That, plus they can't stand anything that Trump does.

Not that I believe MSM polls, since they predicted a Harris win in 2024.  If they poll their base, of course, they'll hate on Musk.  And Tulsi.  And Kash.  And RFK, Jr.  And Hegseth.

the uk needs to get tough with civil servants refusing to work in the office, come to the office or be fired and you can stay home as much as your heart desires.

That old chestnut again. Yawn…..

I have bad memories of some of the idiot managers I've worked for over the years that had no clue what I actually did on a daily basis.  I'd rather they ask me to justify my own performance.  Which I have at many points in my career in the private sector.  That's a lot more fair.

In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves through the U.S. government, Elon Musk has ordered all federal employees to account for their work over the past week—or risk losing their jobs

Read about this yesterday in AP... At first it seems like this is something really strange. But the more i researched I found that there are many businesses that have their management require filing paperwork about what they accomplished that day or week. It is a good method to root out those who sit in their offices talking on the phones or playing FB or TikTok or VDO games. To make sure they are actually working for their salaries.

I am not sure though if Trump can make such a request legally except for work done by federal employees and offices. Which he has just done. Their needs to be accountability in the government and this includes what the workers who are paid so well and with great benefits are doing.

Can you imagine if that was done in Thailand? Everyone would be fired haha.... There is not a business or bar or government office I have walked into and not seen someone playing their phones.

President posting cartoons on Twitter.  Good to see he's not wasting his time.  Maybe Musk could look at that.

Most organizations have key performance indicators (KPIs) but none of them would measure one week; usually annual KPIs would be reviewed every six months. What can you learn in one week?

It's like Musk is expecting to read bs.

Absolutely, and it would be totally justified, as they're all bottom of the barrel picks with very, very little talent or capability. Exactly how Trump likes them.

I gave you a like on general tenor.  But here, I disagree.  We had quite a few excellent and productive Thai employees.  The few lazy ones wouldn't be tolerated by the good ones, and they didn't last long.  We did pay an excellent international salary, so we had our choice of candidates.

Our IT guys (both Thai) kept herd over the interweb use from office computers and network.  We also had to fill in a sheet each week for hours we'd put in- both inside and outside the office.  Because we operated 24/7, a lot of hours happened outside of the business day- middle of the night callouts, etc.  The Thai folks were right there with us.

I do acknowledge that we had an unusually good team.  Office politics were a thing, but not laziness.

I submitted a weekly report every Friday evening.

My direct reports all submitted a weekly report every Friday afternoon.

The fight back is on. Staff were told not to respond to Musk's directive and it was from the inside from Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard. DOGE is a joke and so is Elon.

At the last plant I was in, KPIs were logged every hour.

" “What did you do last week?” The message instructed them to reply with five bullet points outlining their accomplishments""

He is asking employees to note five things they did the week before. It is hard to imagine anyone would not be able to do this, and even harder to understand why they would refuse. Unless of course they had done nothing.

Please Lord let the left fight accountably for government workers and let them continue fighting relentlessly and publicly all efforts for DOGE to reduce waste and fraud, at least until after the election.

Eliminating waste and fraud in government and making government workers more accountable has wide support. This is an 80-20% issue like men in girls' showers sports.

DO NOT GIVE AN INCH LEFTY! fight!  fight!  fight!  fight!  fight!  fight!  fight!  fight! until after the midterms!

Good that there are some workers worht the money you pay them. But my reply before only stated what I have seen when out. not all of them though

GOA and OIG have been auditing and prosecuting fraud before DOGE. Elon is just re-inventing the wheels.

Economic wheels are coming off from Trump's immgration crackdown. Drive up inflation as well as hurting a range of businesses.

I'm looking forward to DOGE using cell tower data (a'la Jan6) to show where the employees who claimed to be "working" from home really were.

That would be amazing.

But is this even legally possible, or physically practicable, with so many individuals in question?

Certainly there must be better ways of verifying what they were doing.

And, is there actually as much fraud as some seem to suspect? Maybe yes, and perhaps not quite.

Start with the reports

They need to be able to track what each employee is getting done each week and then set some metrics.

But, is the GEEK wrong this time?

Does Musk lack empathy?

And, is the request for supporting evidence for work done ill-planned, even foolish?

The  Geek says Elon is wrong.

Yet, commentors disagree...

Although no employee ever enjoys this kind of thing...It does make perfect sense.

Everyone must justify the value of work or the value of research.

This is why research proposals must be submitted and approved.

At first, it seemed quite odd, Elon's request I mean.

However, it is not so odd when looking at the marketplace.

Apparently, the request was a very easy one, and not time-consuming.

So then, why the uproar?

And why the refusal to comply with the request?

So, if someone that was making $50K a year was doing what Musk is doing it would be okay?

Public education gets worse every year. WTF is the Dept. of Education doing?
