February 27, 20251 yr Popular Post Your thoughts. Budget is around up to 6 grand. USD. Location should be about 3 hours NE of Bangkok. My partner will buy the land. What should I be aware of. Thanks. I don't currently live there, but maintain living quarters in Bangkok. This will be only like a weekend get away from Bangkok. Thanks

February 27, 20251 yr Difficult to insulate and will waste electricity on Air Conditioning. Also, very noisy. You will hear every plane flying overhead. Roosters will become bothersome. Why not just attach bamboo to some existing concrete structure? Bamboo would be good if in a cool and smoke-free environment, with low human population.

It's all in the thought process at the moment, but it most likely to take place since we both like the idea.

February 27, 20251 yr Popular Post Bamboo has quite a short life. There are many prefabricated timber frame small dwellings available throughout Thailand that would suit your purpose and would last a lot longer.
February 27, 20251 yr Would be ok if there were no neighbours within 100 m. otherwise too noisy - no sound insulation at all .

February 27, 20251 yr Cement, steel roof struts, standard roofing, sliding glass windows. Bedroom, bath, small kitchenette. You can do that for 200k THB. Our guest house is just about like that.
February 27, 20251 yr Maybe contact a pesticide company to sponsor your project! No sarcasm! https://epmpestcontrol.com.au/blog/what-do-termites-eat-add-do-termites-eat-bamboo/
February 27, 20251 yr What ever you decide to build it's a gift to your partner, most likely their family's land

February 28, 20251 yr See a lot of bamboo bungalows build for resorts up here is northern Nan province. They seem to last about the same length of time it takes for most of the resorts to close for lack of financial viability....18 months.

The older it gets, the more bugs living inside the bamboo. Much better, in this climate, to build using teak wood. But, as the locals know, the wood houses you see around here are extremely HOT. They don't like them. Why not build, instead, RAMMED EARTH using local mud and clay? As in: This is what I would do. Plenty of cheap labor around these parts. Note: This is a great video, but the problem is that the builder's head keeps getting in the way of the building process. At least, this guy speaks passable Thai, it seems...Also, good sense of humor. This is the kind of Tourist most needed in Thailand. Good quality Tourist. And, smart enough to build RAMMED EARTH DWELLING, too!!!!
February 28, 20251 yr $6k USD = 205k THB = 400 hotel rooms @ 500 THB, or 200 room @ 1000 THB. Once a month outing eguals 16 years worth of 1000 baht hotel rooms. Stay 2 nights, and its 8 years worth, or weekly and 4 yrs worth. Do you really want to go to the same place every week for 4 years, or every month for 8 yrs. BORING

The OP said three hours drive NE of Bangkok - there's a lot less planes overhead once one gets out of Bangkok, and they're usually above 25,000 feet! 🙂 The image below shows the live air traffic at the time of posting.

This is just a snapshot at one moment in time. If you watch the video I uploaded, then, during one point in the video you can hear a plane overflying. Almost impossible to find a place in Thailand without planes buzzing us. This is just part of the experience of living in this modern age. We will not have another few quiet years until we have our next pandemic. I am looking forward to it, actually.
