  • No, you and most US presidents before Trump grossly underestimated the importance of the US economy and the strength and depth of the US economy and its role in the world.   Trump, the first

As Abe Lincoln said, you can fool some of the people all of the time.

Abe must have known MAGAs were coming in the future.

Lincoln was a disgusting white supremacist and racist responsible for over 600k deaths, Americans have been brainwashed about him. 18th Sept 1858 in Charleston good old Abe said:

I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. I say upon this occasion I do not perceive that because the white man is to have the superior position the negro should be denied every thing

We may not see December's market highs for 20 years

The market high for the NASDAQ was on 19 February, not December.

Then again, we can see new highs next month. If all you guys are correct that Trump will wreck the economy and destroy the dollar, then the money looking for yield will not want cash. And they will not want bonds with a negative yield.  That money will now to the stock market, for example, where they trade real assets.  Real companies returning real yields.  Dividends and capital gains.

It could.  The Dems are doing their best to sabotage it, and the country along with it.

I have news for you @Yagoda, @Cameroni and anyone else who thinks the US stock market movements are just a small correction.

I am well-versed in stock markets and stock market history.  The markets are long overdue a correction.  This time, the 'correction' will be deeper and longer than anyone might imagine.  You don't know me from Adam, but my advice would be to get out while you can.  I won't be offended if you don't but you will remember my words for a very long time.

As a single indication of what I believe, Morgan Stanley recently stated that the S&P500 could drop to 5,500 by the summer and then recover to 6,500 by the end of the year.  Well, it went as low as 5,528 yesterday.  Let's see where it is at the end of this month, let alone summer....

My investment dude doesnt have any problems with whats going on, but Im a long term guy.

Now I am uncertain about what you love the most? Yourself and your family and your country? or your investment?

While some of that may be respectable, it doesn't justify voting for the dumbest bull in the pen.

If he does have a plan it will only be one that enriches him and his cronies.

Now Trump hits Australia. Another "poke' in one of the 'five eyes'. Canada didn't blink. Instead it dropped its gloves and laughed in the face of the aggressor like every Canadian hockey player does. Aus should do the same - or at least teach Trump what real tackle football is like - without 100 pounds of padding on a fat guy.

Trump was elected, I think, to deport illegals and secure the border, get rid of the DEI and Trans craziness, and take care of inflation. He was not elected to annex Greenland, attack Canada, or rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. But that and Ukraine are where he is spending his time. There is nothing wrong with specifically applied and reasonably targeted tariffs. But maybe look at the people using them against you in China and Southeast Asia before launching a trade war with Mexico and Canada.

So what you're saying is that this isn't the fault of Trump's plan.  It's been building for years, maybe decades.  And we've been getting gaslit by Dems and lefties that the economy under Biden was ginger peachy keen.

BTW, I tend to agree with you.  The employment (and many other) indicators have been fiddled for so long that I won't even blame Biden.  The people wielding his auto-signature stamp do hold some responsibility, though.  But they didn't start the lies.  They just perpetuated them. to get Biden Kamala elected.

The markets are overdue a correction - in simple terms, this is based on time.

Regarding your reference to the Biden administration, Biden was in the right place at the right time and benefitted from the stock market rises.  Also, in contrast to his successor, he didn't do anything too radical to upset the markets.

Markets provide liquidity and like order and stability in which to operate normally - Trump brings neither and his chaotic actions are the catalyst that has caused this change of sentiment in the markets.  Unfortunately, stock market declines can also be far from orderly, panicking the weak into selling and creating a snowball effect.  Watch this space.

Ironically, countless US citizens have self-managed pension funds, i.e. their own personal stock portfolio...  Hopefully, impeachment can't come soon enough.

Even as an American I'm hopeful that the entire planet stands up to Trump, and his absolutely ridiculous nonsense and trade wars.

Just say no to America, the nation that is becoming less relevant by the day.

I'm sure it must be very sad for you, as an intelligent American, to be in a position to feel this way.

As you know, the stock markets act independently of anything Trump can do, and I expect they will determine his fate.

Nothing is worse than an America hater who purports to be an American. Give up your citizenship then.

So, to be clear, disagreement with one's leaders and independent thinking are not the traits of a true American...?

Thanks. @Yagoda is one of the most consistently hateful, disrespectful, and toxic members of this forum. He rarely ever writes anything with any real content, like you do, and it is mostly just vitriol aimed at what he perceives to be enemies of his side of the aisle.

A non-partisan discussion with him is simply not possible, he doesn't have the mind for it. There are a few members like that on this forum and it's best if we simply ignore them and continue and intelligent discourse.

I'm beginning to think that we've seen a generational high in the equity market, similar to 1929 in the US and 1989 in Japan.

We may not see December's market highs for 20 years. After 1929 it took until 1954 to see new highs. In Japan it took from 1989 until 2024.

Oops, I think you've just let the cat out of the bag...

I agree with your thinking, but I wasn't going to be too specific about it.  All will soon become clear, regardless.

p.s. It is refreshing to be part of an intelligent discussion here on Aseannow.

You may want to go back to school on that one. Trump is causing a self inflicted wound on the economy and a follow on effect is hitting the markets which are separate but are influenced by policy. Yes hopefully his fate will be given to him in a time

I can see how my sentiments might be able to be interpreted a different way to that intended.  I apologise for any lack of clarity.

Markets act independently because neither Trump nor anyone else can directly control them.  Of course they are influenced by his actions.
