German Man Detained for Illegal Entry to Visit ill Thai Mother

A 64-year-old German man was apprehended by immigration officials in Phang Nga for illegally entering Thailand to visit his critically ill Thai mother, having previously been deported.

On 24 March, Phang Nga's Immigration Police, led by Pol. Col. Wicha Champawan, detained Rainer Heinz at a residence in Thai Muang, charging him with unauthorised entry into the country.

Officials reportedly acted on tips from locals about a foreign man residing at the house. Attempts to check his passport led him to try and escape through a back window, but he was soon caught.

Investigation showed his passport bore Malaysian immigration stamps, yet lacked Thai entry stamps. Heinz confessed to travelling from Malaysia on 4 July, flying to Penang and then taking a boat to Langkawi before finally entering Thailand via longtail boat.

He journeyed overland to his mother’s home in Thai Muang to visit her during her illness. This incident marks a return after an earlier deportation from Thailand.

Good idea!

It says he was deported before, but it doesn't say anything about why or was he banned from reentering Thailand?

Double deportation mean little with so many Crooked Thais helping illegals enter the country.

It's that easy...

How does a German have a Thai mother?

A terrible abuse of power.

He only wanted to visit his ailing mother for God's sakes.

Yet the cannabis smugglers get off on much less.

Hmmm....

A look krueng (mixed race), maybe, but then he would probably have Thai citizenship, which would make it impossible for him to be deported.

Exactly.  As usual poor reporting leaves us with more questions than answers.

Dunno, Mum & Dad not same same in this great kingdom.

According to Chiang Rai Times (prolly can't link it), he was blacklisted for overstaying a visa.

He entered July of 2024.  His mother died four months ago.

I'm a bit baffled how this German can have a Thai mother without ALSO having Thai nationality.

I wish him luck in any case, he'll need it and his reason for being in Thailand is better than most.

Might have been half Thai half German but never applied for his Thai citizenship prior to be deported for overstay. Just an assumption…🤔

Correct!  If he was born outside of Thailand to a Thai mother you have to apply to get Thai citizenship.  It's fairly easy to get issued a Thai passport for young children.  Then when they turn 15 you need to apply for a Thai ID card.  This what we did for our two luk krung boys.

Sold out by his neighbours, wonder what would happen if every foreigner moves home, Thailand would go bellyup.
