What a total ass. If ever someone was in more dire need of a punch in the face! Trump is a total knob by default, but what is this little urchin's excuse? When the aforementioned is dead and the rest

While the Danes run their country well, high taxes but efficient government services in return, they have not done such a good job in Greenland where they still control, inter alia, defence and the judiciary. I am told that many Greenlanders are not as opposed to a closer US involvement as some media reports indicate.

Does Denmark actually do anything for the people of Greenland, or is it just an ignored backwater far away?

Since our current US leadership is as infallible as a Borgia Pontiff, I wondered about Greenland's security and how, according to the VP, it is at risk.

I looked at history. Since Leif Ericsson, I did not see Greenland was attacked by Genghis Khan, nor Tamerlane, nor Attila the Hun, nor Hannibal (maybe Lecter, but I'm told he's a "great guy"), nor the Saracens, nor Napoleon, Hitler, Stalin or even Martians or Klingons.

The only mention of military force to be used against Greenland in the last thousand years was made by the current US President, who said he would not rule out the use of military force to take what he wants, which is Greenland.

So, parsing all of that, the VP was telling the Greenlanders they needed him to protect Greenland from....him.

Isn't that how Mafioso shake down businesses for protection money?

What does DC do for Alaska?

Last week Putin said something about Seward's Folly being a bad deal, and that Russia should consider taking it back. Though he did not say it specifically, I bet he wouldn't "rule out the use of military force".

If POTUS can simply decide to play 18th Century Imperialist, and covet a land mass never controlled by the US, then certainly Putin can justify retaking a piece of land his ancestors did once control.

Anyway, it's POTUS who is resurrecting Imperialism, so MAGAs cannot complain if other leaders follow suit.

As an alternative, leaders can act like grown ups and come to terms with the modern rules of human civilization. Is that too much to expect from our current President....being a grown up and civilized?

Okay, I answered my own question. Never mind.

What drama over nothing

Yes, it was a silly, pointless trip by a guy with little else to do.

It was like a dog out for a walk peeing on bushes to pretend he's expanding his territory.

He should have spent his time in Ohio protecting small animals from pet-eating Haitians, rather than wasting the taxpayers' money on boondoggles.

Aren’t we being a tad hypocritical? Because I’m quite sure if this had happened under Biden, and Harris would have received the cold welcome Vance and his wife got, all the Trump and Putin fan boys would have been out in force. And now it’s nothing but crickets from you guys. I wonder why that is.

And just as an interesting aside - IF Greenland was ever 'for sale' (big if of course), Britain gets first dibs:-

'The United Kingdom would have "first dibs" on Greenland, before the U.S, according to Greenland's last Danish minister. Tom Høyem, Copenhagen's last permanent representative in Greenland, said Trump would have to get approval to buy the island from U.K. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer—because of an agreement made in 1917. Høyem told The Sunday Times: "If Trump tried to buy Greenland, he would have to ask London first. The United Kingdom demanded in 1917 that if Greenland were to be sold then the U.K. should have the first right to buy it."

Obviously us Brits have a little more sense that to ever do this but it would be hilarious if we did.

We get MAGAs telling us Biden is somehow responsible for Ukraine and Gaza, and they then extrapolate others; aggression and call Biden a "war monger".

So this POTUS launches an attack on Yemen, which his miscreant buffoons broadcast live on a commercially available social media site, and that's okay. Also, POTUS "does not rule out the use of military force to take Greenland" from fellow NATO member Denmark, and he's some kind of hero.

Such is MAGAthink, which really is not thinking at all. Now the empty suit who carries the title of Vice President, goes to Greenland and tells them they need protection from invaders, when the only invader on the horizon for the last 1000 years is the VP's boss.

I am reminded of the scene in Blazing Saddles, when black man Cleavon Little is surrounded by a dozen white cowboys. Little's character pulls his own gun, points it at his own head, and says "Nobody move, or the [N-word] gets it!", to which a woman cries out, "Somebody do something!"

POTUS said it yet again yesterday: "I will not rule out the use of military force to take Greenland."

I do hope the Vikings send a hit team to eradicate the vermin that is POTUS and finally m A g a.

I know Denmark well. I am told by Danish friends that the Danish government over generations have retained control over several important institutions in Greenland, including the judiciary, without significantly improving the living standards and general well-being of the majority of the 50k plus population. In other words, and to quote your goodself, treating Greenland as a backwater

Strange, Trump mr heel spurs himself, should look at the number of Denmarks soldiers that have been sent by that govt to support the US troops in Syria, again in Afghansitan and they lost more soldiers in relations to the population of Denmark than any other country except the US.  Whenever the US called and asked for support, Denmark stepped up immediately, no questions asked, this was mentioned by the former US ambassador to Denmark.   Now Trump and Co. want to expand his kingdom to Include Greenland, Panama, and Canada.  Guess he thinks they will present him with a throne and crown!  IMHO he continues in these senile streaks every day and those RICH idiots surrounding him love it.  IMHO a really scary situation, as who knows to what extreme measures to force them to join he "United States of Idiots" IMHO

Interesting.

I 'am told' the opposite.

Agree. Who really cares if the US or Denmark controls a large pile of ice? Perhaps it can become the Riviera of the north with yellow snow.

Yawn.

Clearly you have a weak grasp of geopolitical strategy.

'Large piles of ice' immediately adjacent to oceans that were previously filled with more ice become strategic naval control points.

The islands the chinese created in the middle of the pacific ocean were previously large piles of coral. But now  they are naval bases with landing strips, rockets, and guns.

Get it now?

Greenland should be state  #51   then the knuckles next door #52 ..   and for hoo hoo's and haa haa's  England could squeeze in @ #53

and that last one would move Alabama and Missisisippi up a rung in the social stats

Yes, I am pretty sure the Greenlanders would do anything to give up their free education, medical and other social benefits for a chance to have a McD joint in town. Maybe to enjoy the putrid American beer too.

Buy Greenland?  Meh.  They might get a stronger security or mineral rights agreement with Greenland, and call it a success.  Or maybe they’ll shoot the moon and win big.

However, there has never been any opposition to the U.S. investing more in Greenland.

true, but it only is a take take relationship where greenland and denmark take all but give nothing back. just another trying to fly low under the protective umbrella of the us. there needs to be some accountability sometimes in life and right now denmark is being asked to be accountable. Maybe if the european countries actually had to invest in their defense the economies would reflect it in turn... but that is just a hypothesis

Vance scolds Denmark during Greenland trip as Trump says US must have island

We come here peacefully to steal your country.

Why you resist?

You should be ashamed of yourself. 😄

The Moscow way,

It's better than the way you had

Standing tall, the motherland will always be free!

(Outro - Guitar Solo as the Kremlin lights up the sky…)

And the rest of the world is watching as daddy tells them that we will take them over if we choose to do so as it will all be for their own good...that is going to piss off even more countries around the world.

Trump and his minions think it is all some big game of monopoly and all they have to do is land on a square and buy up properties...or failing that threaten to send in the military....and maga cheers as we turn allies into enemies.

No man is an island?

Told by who? Recent visits by the VP does not indicate that. If the US wants to invest in Greenland, nobody is denying them to invest. The US poverty rate is more than Greenland.

Do you have anything to support your claim or are you just parroting MAGA propaganda?

Doesn't the U.S. base in Greenland play a key role in protecting the U.S. by allowing to detect in advance ballistic missiles launched at North America (that's precisely its purpose)?

Aren't U.S. mining companies making profit and supplying the U.S. with critical minerals? Haven't Greenland and Denmark banned Chinese firms from investing in infrastructure since 2018?

To me JD Vance looks and sounds like Trumps personal reincarnation of Joseph Goebbels....
