In an eye-opening turn of events, four Chinese nationals were apprehended attempting to smuggle vital files from the wreckage of the collapsed State Audit Office building in Bangkok's Chatuchak district.

This edifice crumbled following a powerful earthquake originating from Mandalay, Myanmar, leaving its site restricted under the Disaster Prevention Act. The incident unfolded after alert reporters flagged the suspicious activity in this disaster zone to the authorities.

Bangkok Deputy Police Chief, Pol. Maj. Gen. Noppasin Poolsawat, reported that one of the culprits claimed to be the project director for the joint venture with Italian-Thai Development Plc.

Authorities quickly intervened, discovering these men taking documents related to contracts, electrical engineering, and inspection requests from the site's vicinity. After verification, police seized the files, questioned the quartet, and temporarily released them after confirming their credentials and work permits.

As the city grapples with the aftermath of the seismic event, the toll stands at 18 dead, 33 injured, and 78 missing. Bangkok's infrastructure battle continues, with train services largely resuming normalcy, barring the Pink Line, whilst the Expressway Authority of Thailand races to clear debris from the Din Daeng expressway for an early reopening.

The Chao Phraya Express Boat Service is rolling out additional trips to ease commuter woes amidst transportation chaos.

The ongoing search at the collapsed site is hampered by rubble, but hope lingers as rescue teams, bolstered by international aid, detect life signals. Eleven bodies have been uncovered, alongside 18 injured workers. Meanwhile, extensive safety checks are underway with Bangkok's authorities flooded by over 11,675 public reports concerning structural stability.

Humanitarian aid is en route for distressed residents in critically affected condominiums in Chatuchak and Phra Khanong districts, with local offices working tirelessly to offer support.

As rescue operations shift gears and additional resources align, officials stress the importance of property inspections, urging building owners towards swift compliance to ensure public safety. The situation remains under watch as Bangkok strives to restore normalcy amidst the tremors of calamity.

I'd wager that the savings were not made by reducing director's salaries or the amounts in the brown envelopes.

It will be savings by reducing quantity/quality of the raw materials.

Cover up by CCP and Thai officials. Obviously there was sub-standard construction quality. Big kickbacks involved with this one.

What is amazing is how did they get this design approved ?? did anybody do due diligence  on this !!

"caught"..."attempting to smuggle"..."the culprits"...

pretty strong language considering no one knows the motive for why the records were being moved. For all anyone knows at this point, they could have been protecting them from the elements, or making sure they were preserved in order to prove no wrongdoing on their part. Let the laugh emojis roll in, but it's true.

The usual dodgy as a 15 baht note CCP stooges trying the normal cover-up MO. Who would trust a Chinese company to do anything right without cutting corners, using sub-par materials, then pocketing the different in corruption? It is so ingrained into their culture that it can be assumed to be the case, doesn't even need investigating. The sheer nerve they have knows no bounds and they just don't care if anyone loses everything or gets killed, means nothing.

Let's see where this goes it probably be swept under the rug  or. Hidden in a pile of envelopes

Yeah, that would be the right assumption. Planks are usually made of wood. 😂

However, this was probably bad quality concrete with the lack of reinforcing armored steel.

I'm always amazed to see how 'flimsy' these buidings under construction look. But surely it's the Architects for the project who specify and monitor construction and their necks may be on the line.

The THB 258 million reduction in the project quote could of course be connected to some criminal corruption.

Perhaps the structure after investigation, will be found to be in line with normal standards.

Or maybe unbeknown, the structure of the ground deep below made that spot, is particularly vulnerable to earthquake disturbance - not everywhere shakes to the same extent during an earthquake . . . .

Pity and R.I.P. the poor souls caught up in this.

Slowly leaking out , Industry Minister Ekanat Promphan, after inspecting steel samples collected from the construction site, refrained from making accusations but commented, “Just seeing it left me stunned.”

if a guy who is a  politician can see this it must be bad !!

Gott - it would be amazing if the concrete supports did not have reinforcement steel as usual ! Quite unbelievable !

Armoured steel ? Never heard of it, except in military applications.

IMO, unlikely that the concrete was below spec.

We'll see . . . .

Something was below spec this is obvious. The building was structurally finished.
