Depends on your definition for good beach. But if you just want fairly nice and not far away, just go to Ko Larn on a weekday when it's not crowded. Rent a bike to find out which beach you like most. Personally prefer Nual as that seems to have most undersea life to observe with mask and snorkel

 

Just a day trip with a slow boat is good for a lazy day. Stay overnight if you like

Yep, I've never seen a train on that line and I've cycled 100+ times. Anyway a 30 minute walk to Nang Rong Beach, ok for me but too much for many incl Thai girls

Old farts may have a hard time getting back up ghe hill to the road, but it's my favorite beach there. Not too crowded, some reasonable food & booze. What more could you want.
