Thailand Digital Arrival Card. TDAC

How about the thousand, or so, Russian tourists in the immigration line?  Not one of them was asked for an arrival QR code.

You only get asked for the TDAC QR code if you HAVEN'T filed it online. Your Russians had obviously done it online already.

it's just my thinking, but maybe the Russians in question were all part of a tour group and it was done for them without them even knowing.

Or maybe they're all better organised than we think.

After all I Imagine living in Russia one gets used to unquestioningly doing what one's told to do.

As i say, just my thinking.

  • Seeing that you have a re-entry permit, you have a temporary permission to stay in Thailand and therefore Thailand is, for immigration purposes, not your country of residence.   In your case

What are you on about. Country of Residence is where you live, in my case Thailand. Earlier in the application you already put your Nationality and Passport number.

Yep, that could be possible of course. My impression, however, was that the arrival card is not used at all.

Another explanation could be that then knew it under another name. Other places (Facebook), I see many people beliving that it is a visa they need to apply for.

It is not needed anymore. No check when I arrived in Phuket yesterday. Nobody in the imigration line had even heard about it. Another Thai pie in the sky.

Think you're the one with your head in the clouds.  Plenty of reports of people being sent to the back of the line to fill it out when they did not do so already.  Even some reports of people being refused check-in for their flight until they showed the agent they had completed it.

There is no arrival card....there is only an online submitted TDAC..once submitted, the info will be available on the IO's terminal once you provide your passport.

Which makes its very existence, and the title of this thread "Thailand Digital Arrival Card. TDAC" all rather ambiguous. 😲

It might have been clearer if they'd called it something like Thailand Digital Arrival Permit

So I think I'd rephase what you said with "There is no PHYSICAL arrival card....there is only an online submitted TDAC....."  The rest of what you say is, of course, accurate.

Pedantic perhaps, but there are sure to be people somewhere wondering how to get their cards!

May also have prevented the questions about whether one needs to print it or not.

Actually I do agree with your thinking. There will probably be people looking for physical cards, even though the word 'Digital' should give them a hint. Hopefully these last few posts will help some people.

Wait until you're somewhere with better internet, or just do at the airport when you arrive.

Sorted. I use Google Chrome but a friens suggested downloading firefox so i give a go took me 10 mins thanks anyway guys.

Straining to find the problem the TDAC form could  solve.  But if it comes to tracking somebody down who had a bad night, got lost or sidetracked by the big Mango, or remained at the registered address after overstay maybe. Real criminals will not provide accurate information.

It's used for statistics.  The Thai government, immigration, and the tourism authority want this information.

Yes, plus it is almost certainly a precursor towards automated e-gates on entry in future.

It will also be the mechanism/gateway to introducing an arrivals tax if they ever get round to it.

Unlikely. Any arrivals tax would be built in to the price of your air ticket.

Sorry, I should have said specified tourist arrival tax.

It's not applicable to Thais and the airlines have said they wouldn't manage it with this exception so the TDAC submission has been suggested as the payment facilitator.

To exempt Thai nationals and diplomats is easy for IATA to manage, but other exemptions like for foreigners with certain types of visas and re-entry permits are not. The TDAC online form can probably be fine-tuned for that if they get to co-ordinate and link various databases and get a competent website developer to work on it. I don't see this happen soon, if ever.

One weird thing I read was being considered was to collect the tourist tax from all foreigners, except probably holders of diplomatic passports, with the inclusion in the ticket price, and allow those on the exemption list to apply for a refund. Oh, horror!

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

This is what I am worried about, being turned away from flight.

I too was frustrated, but then changed my browser to Chrome (which I never use) I was able to submit first try, diodn’t have a printer, but kept the Case Number and gave that to the iO at Suvarnabhumi and she accepted.  Saw at least twenty people trying to fill it out with laptops siting on the floor.   One thing, I tried 4 days prior, it has to be no sooner than 3 days before arrival.    Peace

That's why, although many posters advise otherwise, I shall have the email that I'm sent ready to show at check-in. Might even print it and keep it in my passport!

Rather have it and not need it, then the other way around.

Slightly :offtopic:but everything I read about Qatar Airways  makes me glad I'm flying with Emirates again!

My recent experience was that the immigration officer at Suvanabhumi was not in the slightest bit interested in whether I had completed a TDAC form or not.He didn't ask to see it and I didn't offer to show it.It's possible he was able to check on his computer.I don't know.

If you fly into BKK from the UK and transfer to a flight to Vietnam a few hours later (i.e. you remain in transit), do you have to register with TDAC?

The TDAC application has a question that asks if you are in transit.

Actually it doesn't have a question. It has a box to check in the accommodation section so you don't need to enter address details. In any event if you are not passing through immigration you don't need a TDAC.

I wonder why they even bother with that box then.

Maybe if you tick that, it responds with something like "No TDAC needed" .

Of course it would be helpful if, on the portal, it actually stated that, if you're staying in transit, you don't need one, whereas it actually says ". All passengers must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card.".
