placeholder Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago McDonald's reported its worst quarterly sales for the United States since the height of the pandemic in 2020, the latest restaurant chain to be affected by America's turbulent economic environment. The burger giant reported U.S. same-store sales fell 3.6%, the largest three-month drop since Q2 2020, when they plunged 8.7%. Forecasts had been for a decline of just 1.7%. "Consumers today are grappling with uncertainty," McDonald's Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski said in a statement, as the chain cited lower guest counts. Popular Post KhunLA Posted 18 hours ago Popular Post Posted 18 hours ago to the topic ... to be expected, after 4 yrs of high inflation. Folks are eating in, saving money and eating healthier, hopefully. Hope all lefties aren't implying all the bad in the world is all Trump's fault, who hasn't really done anything yet, except close the border and expose the waste & corruption, of 100s of millions if not billions of tax payers money, gone somewhere, with no accountability. Well, he does like to look at celestial phenomenons without protective equipment, so he would go blind if that happened (just before the whole planet was burnt to a crisp, of course). That's worth a mention, don't you think? 2 2

When JFK Jr talks about harmful food additives you see the MAGA hats all nodding in unison. But back when Michelle Obama tried something similar the same crowd howled like mad dogs, calling her a communist, a Marxist and several other big words they also didn't know the meaning of. As I've stated earlier, one of the prices of becoming a MAGA cultist is to become unaware of your own hypocrisy. 3 1 1 5

What's he going to say? We screwed the pooch here. Who would have figured that people don't want to pay so much money for fast food? Between Bidenflation and some states' push for high minimum wages, they priced themselves out. I remember the olden days when flipping burgers at McDonalds wasn't a career choice. It was something you did as a stopgap between real jobs. Or to work your way through high school or college. Now, it's what you do when you have a useless degree and a crushing student loan. And eating at McDonalds was a cheap way to fill up in a rush. 3

Get shuttered in for a couple years, and silly inflation, across the board for 4 yrs does kind of affect one's play money. That certainly would include dining out. Yea, you can add the Obama's to that also, making healthcare unaffordable now. Have the insurance lobbyist write the law, what could go wrong. Cost more & covers less. 1 1 1

For you, that time is the present. You can't afford to pay entry level unskilled, untrained employees a "living wage" and still make money. Today, a "living wage" is $50K and up. Way up if you're in California. That's always been a business conundrum. When we first hire you, we aren't allowed to pay you what you're worth because of minimum wage laws. We lose money on you until you're trained and seasoned. If you're one of the ones that never catch on, you're a net loss. And then we get sued if we fire you. That's why there were always starter jobs like Mickey D's. (Edit: And apprentice programs and internships) And even if you get real good at flipping burgers, they still can't afford $50-100K.

A high living wage is only required because of the artificially high price of housing and property taxes. Which would be really easy to fix if it wasn't government policy of all western governments. 1 1 1
Etaoin Shrdlu Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Drop in sales must be due to increase in cost caused by the tariffs imposed on McDonald Island. Those pesky penguins ripping off the US all these years by sending burgers and fries without importing anything in return.

Furioso Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I would eat at McDonalds but man I'm just grappling with uncertainty right now...and have been for over 15 years. Okay, I did eat some McnNuggets and fries on Sukhumvit a couple of years ago but I was drunk and hadn't eaten much that day. Other than that McNADA! 1
