Trump ambushes South African president at White House meeting

Donald Trump has ambushed South Africa's president during a White House meeting by playing a video purportedly showing evidence of a "genocide" of white people in the African country.

The US president, who was hosting leader Cyril Ramaphosa in the Oval Office, said the footage showed the graves of thousands of white farmers.

After an initial friendly chat where Mr Trump complimented South African golfers in the room, a montage of videos was played as Mr Ramaphosa sat quietly and mostly expressionless.

Normal presidents don't act like a vulgar mob-boss, especially when entertaining another head of state. Normal people don't support a president who behaves this way.

Just another day in Washington with big Don and his ridiculous antics. You can dress a clown up in royal garments but that doesn't mean he's any less of a clown.

Or maybe I meant to say a $200 blue suit from Target.

Wow.  So they really meant "Kill the Boer"?

I wonder who is next on Trump's list of world leaders to get told their pedigree rather than getting their pocket pi**ed in.

Zelensky got what he deserved, as did Mr. Ramaphosa.  Starmer got off very lightly and was probably thanking the Gods all the way to the airport. :coffee1:

Kind of refreshing having a Prez who's not afraid to call out injustice. Is that wrong?

Fine - but be diplomatic and polite for long term relations - and he seems to have a narrow area of concern which is .. not surprising ..nice to see him bring up similar issues with other countries .. rich oil producing middle east countries perhaps

people forget what the Boer did to the indigenous people, yet two wrongs do not make a right.

If the focus was on "entertainment" it's a waste of time.  He's meeting to discuss and solve issues, not to entertain.

A pity he didn't do that.

Normal people wouldn't entertain a genocidal dictator. Ramaphosa should be in front of the International Court and jailed.

I beg to differ.

He explained to the entire world in very clear terms why he's offering asylum to Afrikaners.  With video.

Yeah, it is only just and natural to punish people for what their ancestors did. That is why Jews are allowed to kill Germans with no fear of criminal justice...

The Boer ARE indigenous people. They arrived 350 years ago. Before the Zulus, just after the Bantus. The Bantus who, incidentallly, stole the land from the previous occupants.  Zulus did the same.

It was quite telling to hear the one white guy, A GUEST of the SA President, casually talking about what his family and neighbours have endured. Neighbours murdered, his brothers and 80 year old mother attacked in their homes, living behind electrified fences in fear, unable to drive in the countryside without being armed to the teeth....

The situation there is dire. I don't blame anyone for trying to leave.

Trump's use of unverified video footage to confront South African President Cyril Ramaphosa risks undermining his credibility. Ambushing a foreign leader with potentially misleading or inflammatory content, like the video alleging violence against white farmers, could be seen as undiplomatic and impulsive. It will weaken trust in his leadership, both domestically and internationally, by prioritizing sensationalism over verified facts, especially if the video's claims, tied to debunked "white genocide" narratives, are exposed as inaccurate.

Let me guess what Biden did was normal right. Lying about his sickness and his clear mental decline.

So normal.

Gotta be fair here. Nobody cares about what Biden may or may not have done.

Trump brought the goods and didn't let the press or the horrid PM of South Africa control the proceedings. He correctly guessed that the issue of the Boer asylum seekers would come up, and prepared accordingly. He and his staff did a masterful job preparing the this meeting.

South Africa recorded 26,232 murders in 2024, which translates to a murder rate of approximately 42 per 100,000 people, one of the highest in the world. The majority of these deaths occur in urban and high-density areas, with the highest provincial murder rates found in Eastern Cape (19.6), Western Cape (16.0), KwaZulu-Natal (12.6), and Gauteng (10.3) per 100,000 people.

In 2024, only 44 murders were associated with farming communities, with just 8 of those victims being White farmers themselves. Most farm murders are motivated by robbery and general violent crime, not racial targeting or political motives.

The murder rate of White farmers in South Africa, is comparable to or even lower than the overall national murder rate, contrary to popular claims that farmers face disproportionately higher risks.

If Trump wants to talk about genocide then he should consider the plight of Gaza which has seen the deaths of over 50,000 Palestinians, including more than 17,000 children. Maybe Netanyahu would have benefited from a slide show in the Oval Office.

But he's also insulting a visiting head of state in a vulgar, mob-boss manner.
