Pattaya critics. Should they have to state their location?

Featured Replies

I notice that a lot of people are critical of Pattaya but I do not recognise the city they describe.

This leads me to wonder;

Are they in Pattaya? Have they ever been to Pattaya? Are they in Thailand?

I don't believe a lot of the "Pattaya Critic" are actually  here. They are just bitter old men and other puritans who possibly came here years ago; fell in love then got ripped and have since left decades ago. The current Pattaya is a wealthy, booming city with top quality hotels and condominium being built faster than London or any European city.

Therfore: I propose that anybody who criticises Pattaya should establish their whereabouts.

The daily news and news here has a lot about Pattaya, and some who live there agree, even if they like it there. One man's pleasure is another man's pain.

Thailand is a dump. At least there's some nice cheap food options in Patts, like 99 baht English breakfast at Cheap Charlie's

"As good once as it ever was" - you must be a Toby Keith fan  (?)

Like you, most of my experiences in "Patts" over many trips have been positive, suffering none of the issues you list. Like you I've had extremely nice times day and night.

Do you think, that just possibly, our behaviour and awareness could have something to do with that?

The view from the planet Zorg is of a vibrant cultural centre with phenomenal temples, indigenous food and many other cultural icons.

Absolutely! And most of the haters have never been there, I'm sure of that. Or they bore the pants off everybody saying what it was like 10/20/30/40 years ago.

I do sometimes amuse guys round the swimming pool with what Pattaya was like 40 years ago - when I first visited - and still having fun! 😎😆😋

Like most places, some things have worsened, but IMO, it's got better over all, hence why I still love my trips.

Is there a Soi 6 there?

Seems like you came here 8 April, so fresh pink meat with pink glasses?

Pattaya are everything you want it to be.

Some great restaurants, cheap hotels, great live scene, festivals, but honestly, last Christmas, I got seriously Benidorm wibes there. Not good for future. Same Hua Hin super busy during holidays, and quiet off season.

Didn't know that  👍 - TK was the first time I heard it - maybe I should get out more 😩

I avoid November - January - it's manic and often not in a good way.

I usually arrive early Feb - weather great, less crowded, cheaper.

Cheaper than that at Foodland in Bangkok, Pattaya is a cesspit full of the worst of foreigners and Thais

Yes it is.  You should go.

I live in Las Vegas.  50 years.  I've never gambled.  I've never even seen a casino.  I don't even know what baccarat is and if 9 or 0 means anything.

Pattaya is a wonderful place filled with museums, food, buildings, weather, and water. It's exactly like American Amish country.

Guilty by association is a false narrative or strawman.

I demand everyone to take a polygraph test before posting!!!!  Ask Ploy if she has ever seen you before?  Talk to the buffalo!!!

OK, time to head back to the temple for my weekly meditation retreat before I feed the poor (work permit) and feed the soi dogs.

I've seen the videos and pictures of the super wealthy Indians, Brits, <deleted>, wonkers, Nigerians, who parade the paradise called Pattaya.

Since I gave up the bar scene about four years ago, I have no problems with Pattaya. I have an inexpensive condo and a live-in GF and no real problems. Being 75 years old has some real advantages.

Never been and will probably never go, but I've lived in Thailand long enough to know that would be the worst Thailand has to offer, for me at least.

yeah ok , bring your mom when you come .....

I was in Pattaya in 1986. Wonderful town.  Came back in 2007 and stayed on night and left the next morning.  Never been back. No plans to return.  In those 21 years it changed a lot.  I imagine in the last 18 years it's even gone further downhill.

You're welcome to it.

Agreed. Paradise lost. It's rise to fame was it's downfall.

Don't you feel cold?

I live in Pattaya and don't see any of the trouble reported on a daily basis but in a vibrant bustling city you are going to get some trouble especially by the uncouth who come here on holiday.

The problem with Thailand is its a hub for shady people with criminal records usually with tattoos
