Pattaya is a  perfect family seaside resort with no prostitution.   I live in Antarctica

  • It's a still a dump. Full of Russians. Highly contaminated sea water. Lots of undesirables.

It's not as good as it once was, but it's as good once as it ever was.....I was there for the weekend.  Not attacked by ladyboys/security staff/other tourists.  Nothing stolen.  And an extremely nice

Not sure anyone should be forced to identify where they live but I get the reasoning.  Lot of naysayers who don't seem to describe the Pattaya I am familiar with.

I've been visiting Pattaya for 26 years spending over 10 years of that there including owning a condo.  Pattaya is a different town for sure and has it's plus's and minus's.  Overall I think it has evolved into a safe place to vacation and enjoy a variety of things including food, golf, nightlife, clean tourist entertainment and yes prostitutes.

In general yes the prostitutes are more in your face in some areas than most of Thailand but then Nana Plaza is just as open.  Yes there is more of it in Pattaya but slowly areas where one could take their mother are increasingly prevalent.

And I find it hysterically funny the holier than thou types who claim to live in Thailand and are sanctified and consecrated.  Maybe some are but I suspect most originally visited for reasons other than the cuisine.

I'm a short drive from Pattaya. Fun to take the big bike and cruise the hot spots. I'd have to say traffic is my biggest complaint.

I wouldn't want to live in the heart of Pattaya. If you don't want to own transportation then Pattaya certainly is a convenient place with all your shopping needs within walking range.

Yeh, lots of these guys here.

Too many stupid, nasty foreigners in Pattaya now.

This guy picked up a brick, threw through shop window.

Haha, this loser threw a rock through the window of a weed shop because they wouldn't sell him a vape.

Guarantee, this guy will sell everything, become an expat, relocate Thailand, marry a bar girl and be an angry miserable, moaning person forever

Girls at Soi Honey had some entertainment for a change.

It's competing with soi 6.

OK, I live in Bangkok and think Pattaya is a sleazy, dump full of sex expats. Actually, the Russians with their families make Pattaya a little more livable.

I find it the other way round. Bangkok is dirty, far too busy and expensive. Give me Pattaya any day.

I don't believe a lot of the "Pattaya Critic" are actually  here. They are just bitter old men and other puritans who possibly came here years ago; fell in love then got ripped and have since left decades ago. The current Pattaya is a wealthy, booming city with top quality hotels and condominium being built faster than London or any European city.

Therfore: I propose that anybody who criticises Pattaya should establish their whereabouts.

Okay. As a UK country bumpkin and well known critic of Pattaya up north, these were my whereabouts during 20 years in Thailand - Phayao, Chumphae, Phu Wiang and Khon Kaen. During this time I made 3 visits to Pattaya to meet up with pals on holiday from the UK. I never stayed more than 2 nights and was soon back on transport back up north happy to exit a sh..hole! I now live in Siem Reap (Cambodia) and have no intention of ever visiting Pattaya again!

No further comment.

I've lived in Thailand for over 20 years. I've never been to Pattaya and never wanted to go there. I am a critic of it because of all the stories I hear (and read here on AseanNow Forums) of the emphasis there on drinking, prostitution, fighting, and all-nighters.

Pattaya is what you make of it. If you’re looking for trouble you’ll find it. If not you can enjoy many different places without having any problems. I think it’s the newbie’s that still love and need the bar scene and the girls or boys. Once you are here long enough and settled down it can be a great place to stay. You know what to avoid and when.

I think if you want to have an active social life with other like minded people Pattaya center is great.  Yes traffic sucks.  But provided you remain physically capable of walking everything is in reach.  And for us golfers traffic in the AM is a piffle.  Coming home in the afternoon is sometimes crap.

Well in my earlier days I spent many a night hitting the gogos and wandering Pattaya late into the night.  Yeah drinking was part of it.  NEVER did I get caught up in a fight and actually not sure I ever saw one.  None come to mind.

Now I am usually in bed by 9 PM.  No idea if there is more of what you perceive and I still have a good time there.  it is what you want it to be.  And one can actually avoid a few specific areas and not see rampant prostitution.  Up to you.

You're right about bitter old men and getting ripped...off, Hooker GF's 20+yrs  their junior, nothing to do but drink and be bitter. Its been the same when it was Thaivisa, its a running joke for most.

Good luck with that one.  Obvious by so many posts, very few live in TH, or visited in many years.

Pattaya is great and I visit 4 or so times a year but couldn't live there, I did try 12 years ago but decided it wasn't for me.

As for 30 plus years ago on my first visit it was nothing like it is today, 2nd road didn't exist.

I live in Isaan and have done for 17 years other than my 1 year in Pattaya.

You dont recognize dirty streets, pervert expats, sex tourists, streets full of hookers, rampant homosexuality, transgenderism, faeces filled water roiling on a dirty beach? You dont recognize a city where loathesome sex obsessed drunken perverts stagger through the slime ridden streets seeking their next sexual adventure?

I live in Cambodia btw, and used to live in BKK

Stay out of the bars and find a woman with a real job.  You'll be fine.

Why would a woman with a real job want any of us?

Anyone who has checked the average wage in Thailand would not ask that question.

So, you first need to change the law, regarding public safety and right to privacy.

To do that, you will need to send a letter to the government. If they show interest in you proposal, it has to be check that your new laws are not interfering with any constitutional laws.

Moreover a scheduled meeting must be done, and everything must go through a voting process.

If you after that, got as you wished, it must be approved by His Majesty The King and published in the Royal Gazette.

Nah......I think it´s good like it is. 😂

And, not to forget. Pattaya is what Pattaya is. Depending on what you search for, it will suit different kind of people. What you can´t deny is that criminality is much higher than before. The violence is more brutal and deadly than before. Many of the beaches are heavily polluted, and the city attracts a lot of undesired residents and tourists.

What an exciting subject. Yes, I have been to Pattaya. Reasonably decent  convention/meeting facilities. A generic hotel experience if one never leaves the hotel premises. Hilton and Centara are good for that. I liked  some of the  low cost shopping opportunities,

The  restaurant options were  rather low end. Pattaya has the same processed food purveyors  found in every Thai urban center.   The so called fine dining options were anything but. The quality of fish left alot to be desired. The sex tourism too blatant. The quality of foreigner really low end, and the congestion and traffic just too much. It was lower cost version of Patong.  I was happy to get on the shuttle out of there.   I could never live there, nor would I want too. The  air pollution was just too much. And worst of all, what an awful beach.

Good idea!  I've  just read a few of the responses so far but it looks like the usual clueless posters are out in force, including the responder right after your post.  I know of at least one poster who comments regularly on all matters Pattaya, always proudly stating that he has never been to Pattaya and has no plans to ever visit.  Hmm.  Someone with deep knowledge to listen to.  Not.

As you stated, Pattaya is, indeed, a wealthy, booming city.  Anybody who actually spends any real time in Pattaya and gets away from the small night time entertainment areas will know this to be true.  You mentioned all the hotel and condo building activity--very impressive.  Especially worth noting is the huge Centre Point 3 resort now going up in north Pattaya.  Quite an investment, especially since the company already built the massive Grand Centre Point and Centre Point Space.  Obviously, both are doing very well with families or #3 wouldn't be going up.  Jomtien is chock-full of new condo projects, as are some other areas.

Equally impressive, in my book, is the number of very high-end houses being built all over, with many of them hidden out of sight on the Darkside, well away from AN's clueless posters.   Many are in the 20MB and up price range.  One only needs to watch some of the Youtube Pattaya real estate channels to see what I am talking about.  The Youtube channel Luxury Property Expert would be a good place to start.  Or, perhaps, Pearl Property.   Lots to choose from.

Pattaya has something like 18 international schools--also impressive for a city supposedly not family-oriented.  Next year, yet another one opens, Highgate.  All those impressive new houses being built apparently are filling up with lots of school-age children.   Perhaps time for a Pattaya re-evaluation.
