Not far from where I live, I know a guy who overstaying his visa. I don't know how long, I don't know why and I see that he doesn't interact much with people when he leaves the house. I've always wondered how you can live peacefully, knowing that you live illegally. And if you have to be hospitalized, you have to show your passport. With the new banking rules, there is a risk that an account will be blocked and being overstayed, how could he do it...and much much more. I think one tries to avoid being seen around as much as possible. However, I will never understand why one would end up living like this.

How do you know? Did he tell you?

 

If he did, I would imagine he told you in confidence.

3 years ago in Laos I met a guy who overstayed for many years. Professional sound engineer. He said that he paid about 70k for a visa agency to solve the problem. And got a passport full of stamps without any overstay history.

The new showing passport in hospitals is a game changer, but only if they check visa status which I doubt they will do

The main reason people overstay is a lack of money. Banking rules probably wouldnt affect many. From my experience hospitals only take a copy of the PP details page, visas are not examined.

Modern countries have all your visa and movement records on computor. Bogus stamps in a passport would only get you past a police officer or such checking you on the street.

Old age and senility another reason. Some people living alone struggle with modern day processes to renew a passport or renew their extension of stay, even with plenty of money in the bank.

I have never had to provide my passport at any hospital.

The OP is in Thailand.  What is his career?  Probably a nothing job, or no job, or whatever....simply throwing stones at someone down on their luck.  now shaming him.  probaby wants him arrested and deported.

That is not 100% accurate. I was in hospital for a long time and one day a woman, I have no idea about the department she worked for in the hospital, came up to my hospital bed and said, "we see you are on a long stay visa" , she even told me the exact expiry date, and asked if I would a document from the hospital regarding the 90 day reporting. But because I was being discharged the following day, I said no worries and will do it myself as I was still in the allowed 7 days grace period.

So yes they check. But YMMV

What does that mean? Does it mean that foreigners here with Permanent Residence (PR) will have their bank accounts blocked? And how will any bank know that account holder is / isn't holding Thai PR?

 

And what if it a joint savings account (the foreigner and his Thai wife or with his adult Thai children?

Nope, only persons without a Long Stay visa, will have the chance that their accounts are at risk that their accounts will be blocked. So it will be a lot harder / impossible for a tourist on a mere Tourist visa to be able to open a bank account or maintain it.

Mine is just a deduction, since I have read several times that, a particular bank,  contact its customers and block the accounts and reopen them after checking their status. If I am wrong, I misunderstood and I apologize.

Yes if you were an inpatient for several days or more there are people that assist with your 90 day report etc that work in the hospital as not everyone is in fit state to do it online or usually does it online so they help the patients out. If you were just seeing a doctor or in for 2-3 days they aren't really going to be looking I'm sure.

OK. Let's recap: The suspect lives near the complainant. The informer works at a marketing company and must live near his job at Sriracha. So, we just need to locate the company and we'll be able to report and catch the heartless illegal, who may be a terrorist or a Criminal, perhaps someone wanted by INTERPOL… And Voilá. 

You never should have stuck your noses into the lives of others..
