Thailand Boosts Tourism with Strategic Focus on Quality Markets

It's just laughable.

They've been repeating the same old mantra for years and years and it's never worked.

The clueless Muppets would know a strategy if it poked them in the eye.

Because they haven't a clue about what's happening outside of the country.

They need to get the numbers of Indians and Arabs down in order to draw in more Europeans and Asians.

  • People with money don't like to be scammed, double priced and limited in their routines, like vaping and alcohol sales/buying hours..Besides that there are better places for these people

  • Here we go again!

Same story , new coat!  As long as there is no real change nothing will happen and quality tourists will go elsewhere.

Anything with the "TAT" marker on it is always  is guaranteed to make me supercautious, and treat the figures as some kind of "pipedream"!

They need to treat tourists like tourists and not grab every chance to put them with pictures in the news by every wrong step they make. They are bashing farangs all the time making it look like they do not want tourists.

True. They live in a bubble and wanr realize that people going to fex Vietnam.. Cambodia and so on because their much cheaper compared to the overpriced Thailand. So what do they focus on..i see some articles and it's about vietnamese hookers in Bangkok for make Vietnamese look bad Then its the border conflict with Cambodia. The manipulation of thai baht.. the street figths in Phuket and Pattaya. The criminal heaven for foreign criminals on the run.Of course u can buy cheap beer and whiskey in 7/11 but a tourist want to buy that in a restaurant not run to 7/11 for a cold beer

Im waiting for 7th july when the US tarrifs start against the countries that haven't get a agreement yet.

Hopefully Thailand get smacked and realize that the karma they allways talk about suddenly hits themselves.

I have lived here for many years. I like the Thai people and have many Thai friends.

I have ZERO regard for the people running this country. They are gradually coming to the realization

that they have to compete for tourists as there are many other choices out there and much of them much better than Thailand. The Bangkok gang of fools needs to pull their collective heads out of their butts and stop giving long stay expats reasons for seeking other horizons.

Thailand doesn't even know what they're selling. It's a lot of things and it's a great country but it's not high quality tourist material, except for in very isolated pockets like an all inclusive resort. Step one foot outside and it's an entirely different story.

You can't just shut your eyes and wish yourself into being a different country.  TAT seem to think that all they need to do is put up prices, say that they're targeting high quality tourists, and they will magically appear.

One of the biggest problems is how they treat foreigners.  Rich people, who can afford to go anywhere, won't be spending big bucks to go somewhere where there is any danger of a local (be it civilian or some sort of authority) giving them a load of hassle and getting away with it, and there's a lot of that in the press.  Rich people want to know that they're going to be treated very well, if they're going to spend a lot of money.  Probably better than the locals.  Nobody wants to shell out on an expensive holiday only to be looked down upon and possibly abused or exploited.

Sure, "it's their country and they can do what they want" is always true, but they then have to live with the consequences.

Sure, good, so long as they don't let  Israeli ex military punks in to make trouble. Yeah, I know, there's no practical way to do that, but we can wish.

I agree with many of the comments that quality attracts money.  Clean up the beaches. Make walking easier.  Help businesses with internet advertising.  Jomtien Complex is not known by the gay community around the world.

But the biggest thing they could do is make the retirement Visa process easier by offering an option to pay a 25,000B fee and not put money in a bank account.  Retirees advertise Thailand to their friends and family abroad and encourage tourism. Encourage long term residences who spend money year round.

major travel networks like Carrefour Voyages.

Really ? In France they are very far behind Selectour and Havas Voyages

and high-spending tourists certainly don't use Carrefour Voyages

ONE HAND - QUALITY MARKETS

OTHER HAND - LET IN ALL CHEAP TOURISTS, EVEN INDIANS.

RESULT - Quality tourists head elsewhere.

Please define "quality"?

QUALITY - A family, with children. Booking 4-5 star hotel. Go and use outside local restaurants. Some shopping. Visit and pay to see local attractions. Use local tour guides to visit destinations. Do not commit any crime. Take social media pictures to spread the word to other families in their group. Children will visit Thailand again when they grow up.

What is not quality - 10 indian men staying illegal in one room, then openly soliciting prostitution in big groups. Benidorm brits boozing it up then smashing up peoples faces and taking marijuana illegally back with them. Cheapos staying in hostels then sipping other peoples left over drinks. Chinese tourists on a zero dollar holiday (where everything is paid for in China, so will only stay and eat within Chinese ran establishments and tours). Draft dodging Russians thinking they can work and buy up property illegally.
