BANGKOK - A Chinese national was detained at Don Mueang Airport after attempting to leave Thailand using a reported lost Mexican passport.

On 4th July, police revealed that immigration officers at Don Mueang Airport identified a suspicious foreign man on 3rd July.

The man, believed to be Chinese, was using a Mexican passport under the name MR. LIN. Further investigation showed the passport had been reported lost to Interpol, with alterations made to its personal details.

Biometric checks confirmed the man's identity as a Chinese national, MR. LIN, who had entered Thailand on 27th June using the same passport.

He intended to fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on AirAsia flight AK885.

The suspect denied all allegations. He and the altered passport have been handed over to Don Mueang Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Well he got in!

I get a few funny looks when presenting my passport. I’m Caucasian but Singapore national. Talk about racial profiling 😂

I agree - i wouldn't have thought that combination should raise any questions, given Singapore's history.

Ignorance abounds!

How in the name of whatever you want would a Chinese national look anything like a Mexican national? This takes stupidity to new levels

Well, Chinese first arrived in Mexico when Spain started shipping them as slaves in the 1630s.

Since then, Chinese have not stopped immigrating to Mexico.

Nowadays, Chinese are the second largest (legal) immigrant group to Mexico only after Americans.

Yeah it seems that people are often very ignorant about the diversity in Mexico. Such as black Mexicans, Jewish Mexicans (now represented by their very popular president), etc.

Some people manage to overcome the stereotypes. I'm guessing that Mexico is moving steadily forward, like Poland, Vietnam, Burkina Faso & others ...

Economics & Migration are interwoven. One pushes the other.  As for Chinese people in Poland.  I would imagine there are many; there are Chinese people everywhere, especially in Europe.

I once got paired up with a guy while playing a round of golf. He was as Asian as you could look, but was Swedish.

Apparently he was orphaned as a baby during the Korean War and adopted by Swedish people, and grew up in Sweden.

Looks can be deceiving.

Probably true in Panama

Passport of Mexico? Wasn't it renamed Passport of America?

Sorry, I am wrong, it's the Gulf of Mexico. But believe me, anything is possible with the Orange.
